Caernarfon Castle | Full Video Tour | Things To Do In North Wales
Join us as we visit Caernarfon Castle In Gwynedd North Wales. One of King Edward I's stunning Medieval Fortresses that was built in this region of the country.
Built over a duration of 57 years between 1283 and 1330, and costing in the region of £25,000, this stunning castle is probably the most well known in North Wales due to its signafigence in British History.
The now King Charles III was the crowned Prince of Wales when he was 20 years old at the investiture ceremony at Caernarfon Castle. The title of Prince of Wales has now been passed on to Prince William, although it is believed that a ceremony similar to that which was held for his father in 1969 is highly unlikely.
Today though, this does not mean that this amazing piece of history is not worth a visit. With day tickets for a...

How do we afford to travel so often? We're lucky enough to stay for almost free in every city, using http://bit.ly/livingwalks

We'll walk past the statue of David Lloyd George in Castle Square, opposite the brightly painted shop fronts; head down hole-in-the-wall street and Palace Street with their pubs and restaurants, and onto the seafront looking out over the Menai Strait to Anglesey.

Caernarfon Castle - The King's Castle - A Tour Of Caernarfon
Welcome to this Caernarfon Castle vlog.
In this Caernarfon Castle, Wales vlog, we visit the famous castle before heading into town for a look around.
It was the day before Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 's funeral and there had been a lot of footage on TV of the now, King Charles' investiture as Prince of Wales in 1969 from Caernarfon Castle.
In all the years of living in North Wales, I don't think either of us had actually been inside Caernarfon Castle until now.
It's a stunning castle, built by Edward I in 1283 and much of it still intact.
There are also many exhibitions telling many stories of the castle.
Once we had spent a few hours walking around the castle, we headed into Caernarfon town for a look around.
Caernarfon is a charming place, with beautiful and old buildings and ...

Caernarfon is a royal town, community, and port in Wales, with a population of 9,852. It lies along the A487 road, on the eastern shore of the Menai Strait, opposite the Isle of Anglesey. The city of Bangor is 8.6 miles to the north-east, while Snowdonia fringes Caernarfon to the east and south-east.
Caernarfon is home to Wales’ most famous castle and an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mighty Caernarfon Castle commands the lion’s share of attention, but the town’s narrow streets and stylishly redeveloped waterfront also merit a visit. The castle, built in the 13th century by Edward I as a royal palace and military fortress, was at the core of a medieval walled town.
Caernarfon was formerly spelt Caernarvon in English, but today the Welsh spelling is universal. “Caer” usually denotes a fortress that pre-dated the stone castles built by the Welsh and Normans. ... The “n” in the middle of Caernarfon is a truncation of “yn”, meaning in. So the name translates as Fortress in Arfon.
Caernarfon is famous for its breathtaking castle and as a stronghold of the Welsh language. The castle and fortified complex is recognised on UNESCO's World Heritage List as one of the finest examples of late 13th century and early 14th century military architecture in Europe.
Although the castle is arguably Caernarfon's biggest attractor of tourists, it is not the only thing in the town worth visiting. It is a bustling market town with a busy port, as well as magnificent views over the Menai Strait, the channel that separates Anglesey from mainland Wales.
It may help you to pronounce names if you remember that the emphasis in Welsh is usually on the penultimate syllable. For example, Caernarfon (kyre-nar-von), Beddgelert (beth-gel-airt), Llanberis (thlan-ber-ris), Felindre (veh-lin-dray). C - pronounced as a K, as in English 'kick' eg: Caernarfon (kyre-nar-von).

With day tickets for a family costing in the region of £30. Tickets can be purchased on the following link - https://cadw.gov.wales/visit/places-to-visit/caernarfon-castle.
We had previously visited Beaumaris Castle which is on the island of Anglesey and we thoroughly enjoyed seeing the ruins, but Caernarfon castle is a very different experience. It is extremely well maintained and has an abundance of historic facts and displays spread throughout.
Firstly though when you visit, you may well find yourself being surprised by it's actual size and design. With a unique hourglass shaped design and it's brazen 12 towers, it is a structure that dominates the landscape and really does appear to stand guard over the beautiful town of Caernarfon.
It has 12 towers which can all be climbed (we say climbed as the narrow steps, do make it feel like quite a hike). The most notable of which are Black Tower, Chamberlain Tower, The Queen's Tower and the tallest, which is Eagle Tower. With its three great turrets and 18-feet thick walls, it is the dominant structure of the castle.
If you are not feeling that energetic, we recommend that you at least go to the top of the Eagle Tower as the views are spectacular. Especially on a sunny day, such as when we visited. You can see across Menai Straits to Anglesey and get a birds eye view of the town itself.
The castle has a small café near the entrance and it also has some great displays which details the history of not just the castle but of King Edward I, giving you a great insight as to the turbulent and often quite violent history that has taken place on the grounds of not just the castle but the surrounding areas.
Also located in the castle is the Museum of the Royal Welch Fusiliers - The Museum is housed in two towers of Caernarfon Castle. In it you will find a wealth of original exhibits, supported by film, sound and models, which tell the story of over 300 years of service by Wales' oldest infantry regiment, in peacetime and in war, all around the world. With models, medals and a vast array of historic weapons, you will find enough to entertain all ages.
In addition to the museum, there is also a cinematic display in the North Tower (situated at the far side of the castle from the entrance), which gives you a great insight into the castles history. From William The Conquerors wooden fortress that was initially situated at the site, right through to modern day.
At present, 2022, there is a £4.5 million improvement taking place near the King's Gate, during which an elevator is being introduced. This will allow everyone to experience the castle and the amazing views from the towers. Being wheelchair friendly this will obviously enhance the appeal of the sightseeing attraction. Which even today attracts in excess of 200,000 tourists.
We hope you enjoy our tour of the Stunning Caernarfon Castle and we certainly recommend it as a great place to see and day our of your are in this part of the country.

How do we afford to travel so often? We're lucky enough to stay for almost free in every city, using http://bit.ly/livingwalks
The castle and city walls of this port and Royal Town in Gwynedd, Wales are part of a World Heritage site.
We'll walk past the statue of David Lloyd George in Castle Square, opposite the brightly painted shop fronts; head down hole-in-the-wall street and Palace Street with their pubs and restaurants, and onto the seafront looking out over the Menai Strait to Anglesey.
(In old guide books you might see the old anglicised spellings of the town, Caernarvon and Carnarvon. These are no longer in use.)

Caernarfon is a charming place, with beautiful and old buildings and some great pubs. We stopped at the famous, Black Boy inn for some Sunday lunch.

Welcome to the official Postcard & A Pint YouTube channel.
Postcard & A Pint was thought up by my partner, Rachel & myself, Wills one day while taking our daily 1 hour exercise during the lockdown of 2020. All of a sudden, we were spending more time together, not working 6 or 7 days a week in the arts industry, and binge watching travel programs, and we were actually really enjoying it, and it made us re-evaluate what was important in life for us. Now back to working 6 or 7 days a week again, with very little time off, our happy time is getting out there on our brief times off together and making short travel videos that we are now sharing with you. It's just a bit of fun, and great for our sanity. Your support is hugely appreciated x
