The Council of Ministers (Italian:Consiglio dei Ministri) is the principal executive organ of the Government of Italy. It comprises the President of the Council (i.e. the prime minister), all the ministers, and the undersecretary to the President of the Council. Junior ministers (Italian:sottosegretari) are part of the government, but are not members of the Council of Ministers.
List of Italian Ministers
The current Italian government is led by Matteo Renzi. As of April 2015, the government has 16 Ministers, of whom three are without portfolio.
Italy (Italia in Latin and Italian) was the name of the administrative division of the Italian peninsula during the Roman era. It was not a province, but became the territory of the city of Rome, thus having a special status. Following the end of the Social War (91–88 BC), Rome had allowed its Italian allies (socii) full rights in Roman society and granted the Roman citizenship to all the Italic peoples.
After having been for centuries the heart of the Empire, from the 3rd century the government and the cultural center began to move eastward: first the Edict of Caracalla in 212 AD extended Roman citizenship to all free men within the imperial boundaries, then during Constantine's reign (306–337) the seat of the Empire was moved to Constantinople in 330 AD.
The Italy Pavilion features a plaza surrounded by a collection of buildings evocative of Venetian, Florentine, and Roman architecture. Venetian architecture is represented by a re-creation of St Mark's Campanile (bell tower) and a replica of the Doge's Palace. The pavilion's design is inspired by other hallmarks of Italian architecture, such as the Neptune Fountain (reminiscent of Rome'sTrevi Fountain) and the Il Bel Cristallo shop (meant to resemble the exterior of the Sistine Chapel). Musicians, clowns, and acting troupes often appear in the piazza throughout the day. There are also small shops selling Italian goods, such as candy and wine.

STORYLINE:
The Italian government held an extraordinary cabinet meeting on Thursday in the town of Cutro, in southern Italy, where on February 26 over 70 people died in a deadly shipwreck trying to reach the Italian coast from Turkey.
Dozens of demonstrators gathered near the venue of the meeting, to protest the government policies on migration.
The town hall, that is hosting the meeting, was surrounded by hundreds of police and soldiers.
“They wanted to move the coffins against the will of the loved ones of the victims to keep the situation quiet, because today there is the cabinet meeting in Cutro," said Stefano Mancuso, member of COBAS labour union.
In a symbolic move to highlight what Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni has described as her right-wing government's genuine concern for migrant lives, Meloni was leading a session hosted in Cutro's town council hall.
The ministers were expected to approve far stiffer punishment for smugglers who guide unseaworthy boats crowded with migrants to Italy's shores.

STORYLINE:
Italian ministers held a special Cabinet session in Naples on Wednesday, partly dedicated to solving the city's garbage crisis.
Premier Silvio Berlusconi has moved the session to the southern city, vowing to clean the city's streets of the garbage that has piled up for months and become a stinking symbol of government inadequacy.
Wednesday's Cabinet meeting is the first major initiative by Berlusconi since he won election last month. His campaign included a promise to return Naples to cleanliness and order.
Berlusconi, who said he wanted to heal the wound of a city he loves, wants the meeting to be more than symbolic.
He is expected to announce immediate measures, which might include opening new dump sites and calling in the army to clean streets and restore order - a measure that was taken by his predecessor, Romano Prodi, but only partially implemented in some smaller towns in the region.
The Cabinet will also discuss measures to crack down on illegal immigration and street crime.
In preparation for the Cabinet meeting, trash trucks have been working at full speed to remove some of the thousands of tons of garbage and make the city more presentable.
However, the local garbage collection agency said that 3,000 tons of garbage remained to be picked up.
In the Campania region surrounding Naples, an estimated 50,000 tons are waiting to be removed.
Neapolitans are awaiting the arrival of Berlusconi and his ministers with the characteristic blend of fatalism and sarcasm.
"Sainthood Immediately for Berlusconi - if he eliminates trash and criminals!" read a poster on the city's walls, a reference to the chants of "Sainthood Immediately" that erupted after the death of Pope John Paul II.
Demonstrations by radical leftists and environmentalists are planned across the city, and 1,000 police officers will patrol the central area where the Cabinet meeting will take place.
The garbage crisis began in December when garbage collectors stopped picking up the trash because dumps were full.
It is a recurring problem - the result of years of bad government, citizens' protest against new dumps and incinerators and, officials say, infiltration by the local mob.
This time, the situation has gone from bad to worse.
Piles of garbage have been blocking sidewalks and streets in the centre of Naples and its suburbs, forcing residents sometimes to wade through knee-high trash.
The stink is prompting some residents to stay inside and others to wear masks. Some have taken to burning rubbish and knocking over refuse bins.
Such is the anger of city residents that they have attacked firefighters trying to put out the blazing rubbish, hurling rocks and forcing the firefighters to seek police escort.
