Plot
As the team grieve for their fallen colleague ("For Warrick"), Grissom makes a life changing decision ("One to Go"), during the ninth season of CSI. Also this season, Sara investigates the death of a woman attacked nine years ago ("The Happy Place"), new CSI Riley Adams joins the team ("Art Imitates Life"), and she and Nick witness a store robbery on Halloween ("Let it Bleed"), Grissom attends the trial of the Miniature Killer ("Woulda, Shoulda, Coulda"), and an infamous serial murderer brings Dr. Raymond Langston face-to-face with the CSI team ("19 Down"). As Catherine adjusts to life as the team's leader, she investigates the bizarre, the brutal, and the unlikely, including an S&M related murder ("Leave out all the Rest"), an arson-homicide ("The Grave Shift"), the murder of an FBI agent ("Disarmed and Dangerous"), death-by-toothpaste ("Deep Fried and Minty Fresh"), and a Mexican wrestling related death ("Mascara"). Nick, meanwhile, investigates the happenings of a seedy motel over the course of a year ("Turn, Turn, Turn"), and Hodges and Wendy attend a sci-fi convention ("A Space Oddity").

Plot summary
Mixing deduction, gritty subject matter, and character-driven drama, CSI follows Las Vegascriminalists (identified as "Crime Scene Investigators") working for the Las Vegas Police Department (LVPD) (instead of real-life "Crime Scene Analysts" and "Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department" (LVMPD)) as they use physical evidence to solve murders. The team is originally led by Gil Grissom, CSI supervisor for the grave shift and a forensic entomologist, and his second-in-command, Catherine Willows, a single mother with a cop's instinct. Born and raised in Vegas, Catherine was a stripper before being recruited into law enforcement. Replacing Grissom is D.B. Russell, who has come to the team after heading the Seattle Crime Lab. His number two is Julie Finlay, a CSI III and a blood pattern expert who previously worked with Russell in Seattle. She replaces Willows. Like Catherine, she is a blood-spatter expert with extensive knowledge of criminal psychology. With their team, they are on the case 24/7, scouring the scene, collecting the evidence, and finding the missing pieces that will solve the mystery.

Plot
The murder of a Police Chief leads Willows and Brown to Miami ("Cross Jurisdictions"), in the second season of CSI. The Las Vegas CSIs investigate another series of gruesome, unprecedented, and unsolvable crimes, including the murder of Catherine's brother ("Burked"), the disappearance of a University student ("Chaos Theory"), the death of a construction worker ("Overload"), the discovery of a decomposed body in a bag ("Bully for You"), a scuba diver discovered up a tree in the desert ("Scuba Doobie-Doo"), a fetish murder ("Slaves of Las Vegas"), and a death at a spa ("Alter Boys"). Meanwhile, Catherine and Sara investigate both a suspected suicide-by-train ("Caged") and a homicide at a remote convenience store ("And Then There Were None"), Warrick is given the opportunity to head the crime lab ("Ellie"), Grissom and Willows come to face to face with a serial killer in a courtroom ("Identity Crisis"), and Nick studies the death of a woman who drowned in the desert ("Anatomy of a Lye"), after finding himself the target of a stalker ("Stalker").
As the CSIs race to save one of their own ("Dead Doll"), Sara makes a life changing decision ("Goodbye and Good Luck"), and one investigator falls ("For Gedda"), in the eighth season of CSI. Grissom, Willows and their team investigate a decapitation ("A La Cart"), a demonic possession ("Go to Hell"), the death of a hermaphrodite ("The Case of the Cross-Dressing Carp"), the murder of a slasher actress ("The Chick Chop Flick Shop"), and a kidnapping that brings New York's top FBI agent to Las Vegas ("Who and What"). Meanwhile, Catherine finds herself affected by the death of a three-year old ("A Thousand Days on Earth"), and the death of a difficult TV star leads Brass and Grissom to Hollywood ("Two and a Half Deaths").
