The Holy Roman Empire: The Rise of Medieval Europe
The Holy Roman Empire is a powerful state that emerged from the ruins of the Frankish Empire, once created by Charlemagne. But what was it actually? Known for its federal system, it united not only the scattered Germanic tribes, but also the inhabitants of modern Italy, France, the Netherlands and other European countries. Its "holiness" was ensured thanks to a close alliance with the Pope. It was then that the German kingdom was proclaimed the Holy Roman Empire.
It has been argued that this is where the history of Germany as a united state begins. Also, the roots of the idea of the supremacy of the German peoples, which was reflected much later in history, come from here. It was here that the concepts of "duke" and "burg" appeared, quickly spreading throughout Europe. The history of th...

[ History of Johann Pachelbel ]
Author : Johann Pachelbel

Free Imperial City of Nuremberg, Holy Roman Empire
Johann Pachelbel (also Bachelbel; baptised 11 September [O.S. 1 September] 1653 – buried 9 March 1706) was a German composer, organist, and teacher who brought the south German organ schools to their peak. He composed a large body of sacred and secular music, and his contributions to the development of the chorale prelude and fugue have earned him a place among the most important composers of the middle Baroque era.
Pachelbel's music enjoyed enormous popularity during his lifetime; he had many pupils and his music became a model for the composers of south and central Germany. Today, Pachelbel i...

Charles V and the Holy Roman Empire: Crash Course World History #219
In which John Green teaches you about the Holy Roman Empire by teaching you about Charles V. Charles Hapsburg was the Holy Roman Emperor, but he was also the King of Spain. And the King of Germany. And the King of Italy and the Lord of the Netherlands and Count Palatine of Burgundy. In short, Charles was runnin' thangs in much of the world during his reign. Charles ruled a lot of countries, and he was also known for encouraging intellectual discourse and even spoke out against slavery, in a limited way. So why did he consider himself a failure, and why did he break up the Empire when he abdicated in 1556? Mainly because the Holy Roman Empire didn't work very well. It was huge, and it didn't have any means of directly raising taxes. Plus, it was a pretty crazy time in Europe anyway, and Cha...

Beginning with Charlemagne, the great and educated king who would serve as an inspiration for world leaders from Frederick II to Adolf Hitler, the Holy Roman Empire’s intricate ties with the Roman Catholic Church would provide for plenty of excitement and drama in its early years. However, as the empire staggered through the Middle Ages and into the Renaissance, it would eventually be forced to declare its allegiance with a new way of thinking: Protestantism.
Throughout the Holy Roman Empire story, a wealth of fascinating tales from interesting people proliferates. Monks and emperors will clash, poets sing the praises of kings, and the pope rides blind and bareback on a frightened donkey through the streets of Rome. The mightiest monarch in all of the world walks barefoot in the snow in repentance for his angry deeds, and two rival families stand toe-to-toe for the monarchy. Crusades are lost in war and won in diplomacy, while kings are held ransom, revolts are suppressed, and antipopes crowned.

The history of the Holy Roman Empire is the history of medieval Europe itself and in this video we explore it in detail.

[ History of Johann Pachelbel ]
Author : Johann Pachelbel
Baptised : 11 September [O.S. 1 September] 1653
Died : Before 9 March 1706 (aged 52)
Today, Pachelbel is best known for the Canon in D; other well known works include the Chaconne in F minor, the Toccata in E minor for organ, and the Hexachordum Apollinis, a set of keyboard variations.
He was influenced by southern German composers, such as Johann Jakob Froberger and Johann Caspar Kerll, Italians such as Girolamo Frescobaldi and Alessandro Poglietti, French composers, and the composers of the Nuremberg tradition. He preferred a lucid, uncomplicated contrapuntal style that emphasized melodic and harmonic clarity. His music is less virtuosic and less adventurous harmonically than that of Dieterich Buxtehude, although, like Buxtehude, Pachelbel experimented with different ensembles and instrumental combinations in his chamber music and, most importantly, his vocal music, much of which features exceptionally rich instrumentation. Pachelbel explored many variation forms and associated techniques, which manifest themselves in various diverse pieces, from sacred concertos to harpsichord suites.

Plus, it was a pretty crazy time in Europe anyway, and Charles found himself in charge of the Catholic-Church-Endorsed Empire during the time of Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation. John will teach you a bit about how Charles put the Empire together, and how it fell apart, and even talk a bit about the Diet of Worms.
This episode was written by Neal Schulz, but we messed up the onscreen credits. Thanks, and great work, Neal.

Imperial Palace (京都御所), Kyoto, Japan
The Kyōto Imperial Palace (京都御所, Kyōto-gosho) is the former palace of the Emperor of Japan.
The Japanese royal court was moved to Kyoto (formerly Heian-kyō) from Nagaoka by Emperor Kanmu (737–806). Kyoto was selected as the location for the court because of its "proper" amount of rivers and mountains which were believed to be the most auspicious surroundings for the new capital. The capital itself was built in imitation of Changan, closely following the theories of yin-yang. The most prominent group of people within the court was the civil aristocracy (kuge) which was the ruling class of society that exercised power on behalf of the emperor.
Since shogunate system gradually seized governance from the emperor, the Imperial Court in Kyoto was, for the most time, the nominal ruling governme...

Since shogunate system gradually seized governance from the emperor, the Imperial Court in Kyoto was, for the most time, the nominal ruling government of Japan until the Meiji period (1868–1912), after which the court was moved from Kyoto to Tokyo (formerly Edo) and integrated into the Meiji government; However, Emperor Taishō and Shōwa still had their enthronement ceremonies held at the Kyoto palace.
The preservation of the Kyoto Imperial Palace was ordered in 1877. Today, the grounds are open to the public, and the Imperial Household Agency hosts public tours of the buildings several times a day.

**The Elusive Samurai** is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yusei Matsui. The story is set during the tumultuous period of Japan's Kamakura era, specifically around the 14th century. It blends historical events with a fictional narrative, centering on a young noble named Hojo Tokiyuki, who possesses an extraordinary talent for evasion and stealth. Here's a detailed plot overview:
### Setting:
The story is set during the fall of the Kamakura shogunate, a period marked by political upheaval, warfare, and betrayal. The Kamakura shogunate, which had ruled Japan for over a century, is under threat as the imperial court in Kyoto seeks to reclaim power. Amid this chaos, various clans vie for dominance, leading to a period of intense strife.
### Main Plot:
#### **Introduction:**
Hojo Tokiyuki is a young prince from the Hojo clan, the ruling family of the Kamakura shogunate. As a child, Tokiyuki is carefree and somewhat naive, unaware of the political machinations around him. He is more interested in games and running away from his responsibilities, a talent that will soon prove invaluable.
#### **The Fall of Kamakura:**
The story takes a dramatic turn when Ashikaga Takauji, a powerful general who once served the Hojo clan, betrays them. In a brutal coup, Takauji leads an army against Kamakura, overthrowing the shogunate. During the attack, most of Tokiyuki’s family is killed, and the young prince narrowly escapes thanks to his innate talent for evasion.
#### **Journey of Survival:**
Tokiyuki becomes a fugitive, fleeing from the forces of Takauji, who now seeks to eliminate any remaining members of the Hojo clan to secure his power. Along the way, Tokiyuki is guided by Suwa Yorishige, a wise and eccentric priest who recognizes the boy’s potential and takes him under his wing. Yorishige convinces Tokiyuki to embrace his destiny as the rightful heir to the shogunate and to seek revenge on Takauji.
#### **Training and Development:**
Under Yorishige’s tutelage, Tokiyuki hones his skills in stealth, evasion, and leadership. He learns the art of war, but his primary strength remains his ability to escape from impossible situations, earning him the moniker "The Elusive Samurai." As he matures, Tokiyuki also begins to grapple with the weight of his family’s legacy and the responsibility of reclaiming his clan's honor.
#### **Themes and Motifs:**
The Elusive Samurai explores themes of loyalty, honor, and the burdens of leadership. Tokiyuki's journey is not just about physical survival but also about growing into the role of a leader who can inspire and protect others. The series also delves into the nature of power and the cyclical nature of history, where today's rulers can become tomorrow's tyrants.
#### **Climax and Resolution:**
As Tokiyuki's influence grows, he becomes a symbol of hope for those who oppose Takauji’s tyranny. The series builds toward an inevitable confrontation between Tokiyuki and Takauji, where the young samurai must use all his wits and training to defeat the man who destroyed his family. The final battle is not just a test of strength but also a battle of ideologies, with Tokiyuki fighting for the restoration of justice a
## Conclusion:
The Elusive Samurai is a tale of resilience and cunning, set against the backdrop of one of Japan's most chaotic historical periods. With a compelling protagonist and a rich cast of characters, it offers a unique blend of historical fiction and action, while also providing a commentary on the nature of power and survival.
