Burnett Heads is a town at the mouth of the Burnett River in Queensland, Australia, located 16 kilometres (9.9mi) north of the regional city of Bundaberg. At the 2006 census, Burnett Heads had a population of 2,419.
The town's most notable feature is its historic timber lighthouse, the Old Burnett Heads Light, dating from 1873. The structure, originally sited on South Head (the southern entrance to the Burnett River), was replaced by a modern structure in 1971; the original lighthouse was restored and moved to a local park off Mittelheuser Street. It includes the original Fresnel lens.
In recognition of its lighthouses, Burnett Heads stages the annual Lighthouse Festival on the last Saturday in October.
Burnett Heads is in the Bundaberg local government area.
History
Burnett Heads Post Office opened by 1919 (a receiving office had been open from 1888), closed in 1924 and reopened around 1942.

Often referred to as the "Sunshine State", Queensland is home to 10 of Australia's 30 largest cities and is the nation's third largest economy.
Doug is a factory worker living in Melbourne who dreams of moving from Melbourne to Queensland. He attempts to reconnect with an old flame, Marge, and move to Queensland together.
John Ruane says he was inspired by a newspaper article about a slaughter man who killed his de facto wife and then got drunk for two days. He decided to remove the killing aspect, concentrate on the relationship. Ruane:
The film was made with money from the Experimental Film and Television Fund while John Ruane was a film student at the Swinburne College of Technology in Melbourne.
Release
The movie was released through the co-operative movement.

NORTH QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA 1951 TRAVELOGUE FILM 75122
Made by Australia's National Film Board in 1951, "North to the Sun" shows a tourist view of Far North Queensland. It investigates what underpins the tropical north and discovers it is more than just a holiday destination. It is a place where jungle has given way to the cultivation of sugar cane and tobacco, and where prosperous communities of Australians have proved that the Australian tropics are a pleasant place to live in and that industry is generously rewarded there. Produced by The National Film Board 1951. Directed by John Martin Jones with photographer George Lowe; sound, Alan Anderson.

The allure of pleasant weather, a carefree lifestyle and better job prospects in Queensland appeal to Doug, a downtrodden factory worker from Melbourne.
The film was chosen as one of the first 50 graduate films to be digitised as part of the VCA film school’s 50th birthday celebrations because it captures the zeitgeist of Melbourne in the 1970s – and what its director, John Ruane, refers to as a ‘vanishing breed of Australians’. The film’s strong visual style captures the bleakness of a Melbourne winter, starkly contrasted by Doug’s imaginings of sunny Queensland. The film includes fascinating ‘old footage’ of Melbourne suburbs that have since become gentrified, notably Northcote and Fitzroy.
‘Queensland’ was inspired by Ruane’s reaction to a news report – about a man who slaughtered his wife and then proceeded to drink for the two days following the murder. It is also influenced by other contemporary works, such as ‘Summer of the Seventeenth Doll’ and ‘Midnight Cowboy’.
Despite being ‘over length’ for a short film, the film was enormously successful, winning the AFI Award in 1976 for Best Short Fiction Film and later being screened by the ABC. As a director, Ruane went on to make significant Australian films such as 'Death in Brunswick' (1980), Tim Winton’s, 'That Eye the Sky' (1994) and another AFI award winning short film, 'Feathers' (1987).
‘Queensland’ is also a significant film because it is another great example of the strength of relationships formed at film school, notably here, between the director John Ruane and co-writer/cinematographer, (VCA alumnus) Ellery Ryan. As a matter of trivia, Melbourne’s 103rd Lord Mayor, Robert Doyle, is credited as the Key Grip in ‘Queensland’.

QUEENSLAND, WHERE AUSTRALIA SHINES...
Movie World is a theme park on the Gold Coast in Queensland,Australia. Owned and operated by Village Roadshow Theme Parks, the park opened on 3 June 1991.
