Myanmar military hold annual parade amid battlefield losses
Thousands of Myanmar military personnel held their annual parade in the capital Naypyitaw on Wednesday, Mar. 27 against a background of unprecedented battlefield defeats that have heavily tarnished their once invincible reputation. The military seized power in Myanmar in February 2021, overthrowing the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi, whom it accused, without providing evidence, of winning the 2020 election through massive voter fraud. The military’s brutal suppression of protests triggered a fierce nationwide armed resistance. #myanmar #myanmarnews #military

Myanmar's powerful Wa army enters warring town of Lashio in rare move to keep peace
Deadly clashes are continuing in the key border town of Lashio in Myanmar between the military and an ethnic armed group, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance (MNDAA). Reports say the military's second-in-command there has died from attacks by the MNDAA. This comes as a third party - Myanmar's most powerful ethnic Wa State army - entered Lashio in northern Shan state over the weekend for peacekeeping purposes and to protect its properties there. Frontline special report: Myanmar rebels take on army in brutal civil war | BBC News
Myanmar is in the grip of a civil war, largely forgotten by the outside world, which has left thousands of people dead and displaced more than two million from their homes.

Myanmar is in the grip of a civil war, largely forgotten by the outside world, which has left thousands of people dead and displaced more than two million from their homes.
Rebel forces are fighting a bloody campaign against the military regime which seized control of the country in 2021, when army generals overthrew the elected government of Nobel peace prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.
Mass protests at the crushing of democracy were brutally put down. Many people took up armed resistance to the regime and in October 2023 several rebel groups united to form a single national insurgency.
Recently the rebels have been making big territorial gains. The fighters, among them a group known as the KNDF, are now presenting Myanmar’s military with the biggest threat to its rule since it seized power.
