Burgess Hill Town - Meridian News South East, 23rd February 2023
Burgess Hill ‘traffic chaos’: residents angry about new signals at Station Road. Burgess Hill residents are ‘furious’ about new traffic signals that are causing ‘absolute traffic chaos’ in the town centre.
The roundabout, which was previously a simple and effective intersection, has undergone a complete redesign resulting in an unjustifiable increase in traffic congestion. Drivers are now experiencing record-level traffic jams, with long wait times that were not present before the redesign. The persistent nature of these traffic lines indicates that the issue is structural, suggesting that the planning and design of the roundabout were either inadequately performed or subject to malpractice.

In 1841 the railway arrived in Burgess Hill courtesy of the London and Brighton Railway. Being situated directly on the Brighton Main Line, the town grew significantly in the following decades, which helps to explain the prominence of the Victorian brickwork seen in the town centre. One building of particular note from this period of expansion is the Church of St John the Evangelist, built in the 1860s and seen at the end of the walk. Today, trains take just under an hour to reach central London, and around 15 minutes or less to reach Brighton.
Famous people from Burgess Hill include Simon Nye - writer of the sitcom Men Behaving Badly.
