The Brahui (Brahui: براہوئی,) are an ethnic group of about 2.2 million people with the vast majority found in Baluchistan, Pakistan as well as Afghanistan, where they are native, but they are also found through their diaspora in Middle Eastern states. The Brahuis are almost entirely SunniMuslims.
Origins
The ethnonym "Brahui" is a very old term and a purely Dravidian one. The fact that other Dravidian languages only exist further south in India has led to several speculations about the origins of the Brahui. There are three hypotheses regarding the Brahui that have been proposed by academics. One theory is that the Brahui are a relict population of Dravidians, surrounded by speakers of Indo-Iranian languages, remaining from a time when Dravidian was more widespread. Another theory is that they migrated to Baluchistan from inner India during the early Muslim period of the 13th or 14th centuries. A third theory says the Brahui migrated to Balochistan from Central India after 1000 AD. The absence of any older Iranian (Avestan) influence in Brahui supports this last hypothesis. The main Iranian contributor to Brahui vocabulary is a northwestern Iranian language, Baluchi, Sindhi and southeastern Iranian language, Pashto.

In this video, I’m going to explain Pakistan’s mysterious and unique language “Brahui’, a Dravidian language. Brahuis are one of the famous ethnic groups in Pakistan. They are living i...

Their total estimated number is just under 3 million. Most of them, about 2.6 million, live in Pakistan in the province of #Balochistan.
In Afghanistan, although official numbers are difficult to find, it is estimated that there are around 200,000 nomads or semi-nomads of the Brahui ethnic group, located in the southern province of Kandahar.
Alongside these larger and more consistent groups, Brahui communities are found even further west. For example, in Iran, precisely in the eastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, bordering Pakistan. Here they are estimated to be a few tens of thousands, about 20,000.
However, very surprisingly, a small Brahui community is also present in Turkmenistan, in the oasis of Merv, at the gates of the ancient silk road.
Beyond the numerical factor, the most important question is: who are the Brahuis, what is their history? Are they really the last descendants of the Dravidian people, and therefore the confirmation of the #Dravidian presence throughout the Subcontinent before the arrival of the Aryans? Or, otherwise, are the descendants of migratory groups who moved here from other parts of India, thus refuting, in whole or in part, the theory of the Aryan invasion?
Let's analyze these and other questions concerning the Dravidians of Pakistan and Afghanistan in this video!

In this video, I’m going to explain Pakistan’s mysterious and unique language “Brahui’, a Dravidian language. Brahuis are one of the famous ethnic groups in Pakistan. They are living in the Balochistan province of Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan. Their language Brahui contains almost 15% of the words from Dravidian languages, especially Tamil. According to the ‘Dravidian Etymological Dictionary’ by Thomas Burrow and Murray B. Emeneau, approximately 300 words in Brahui language are similar to Tamil. How Brahui have so many Tamil words in their language? Who are these Brahui people? Researchers say these Brahui peoples are inhabitants of Indus Valley Civilization. Around 3500 years ago after the Aryan Migration, the IVC peoples start to migrate towards the south but some of the groups are migrated towards the west and stayed in the mountains of Balochistan. But some say they went to Pakistan from South India, but researchers believe they are the original inhabitants of IVC. Currently, Brahui language contains lots of words from Baloch, Urdu and Sindh languages and Brahui language was classified as Endangered languages of Pakistan by UNESCO.

Who are the #Brahui people?
They are considered the only (and the last) Dravidians of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

8:07 Brahui - an endangered language
Are There Similarities in Brahui and Malayalam language?
Brahui is a northern Dravidian language spoken primarily by the Brahui people in the central part of Balochistan Province, in Pakistan and in scattered parts of Iran, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan and by expatriate Brahui communities in Iraq, Qatar and United Arab Emirates.

The Brahui (Brahui: براہوئی), Brahvi or Brohi, are a Dravidian-speaking ethnic group of about 2.2 million people with the vast majority found in Balochistan, Pakistan.[1] They are also found in small numbers in Afghanistan and Iran, where they are native, but they are also found through their diaspora in other Middle Eastern states.[2] They mainly occupy the area in Balochistan from Bolan Pass through the Bolan Hills to Ras Muari (Cape Monze) on the Arabian sea, separating the Baloch people of Balochistan to the west and the Sindhi people of Sindh in the east. The Brahuis are almost entirely Sunni Muslims.
The Brahui language is a Dravidian language, even though it is very far from South India. It is mainly spoken in the Kalat areas of Balochistan, Pakistan, and in Southern Afghanistan, as well as by an unknown very small number of expatriates in the Persian Gulf states, Turkmenistan, as well as Iranian Balochistan.

The international community today has been paying attention to the worsening situation of the people of Balochistan, Pakistan... The Baloch people speak the Balochi and Brahui languages, both of which are integral to their cultural identity.
