The two-part TV movie is based on the true story of Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker. Barrow, a charismatic convicted armed robber, sweeps Parker – a young and impressionable, petite, small-town waitress, who is already married – off her feet. In the early 1930s, the two embark on one of the most infamous crime sprees in American history.
Part 1: Tells the story of Clyde Barrow's childhood growing up in rural Texas with his older brother Buck as they steal chickens, and later they do a stint in prison for stealing bigger and better things. After Buck ends up incarcerated again, Clyde meets the love of his life Bonnie Parker, who dreams of becoming a movie star in Hollywood. Soon the couple goes on a crime spree, robbing banks together after Clyde's partner is caught. They are able to stay one step ahead of the "laws" while they rob bigger banks in the state.
The song features Eminem killing his ex-wife, Kim Mathers, and dumping her corpse in the ocean with the help of his then-infant daughter Hailie. The sounds played at the beginning of the song, including the jingling of keys and the slamming of a car door, imply that Eminem put Kim's body in the trunk of his car. These are the same sounds played at the end of the song "Kim" by Eminem. In "Kim", the lines immediately before the sounds are heard. Eminem got the idea to write this song at a time when his wife was stopping him from seeing his daughter.
Critical response
AllMusic highlighted and praised the song: "notorious track where he imagines killing his wife and then disposing of the body with his baby daughter in tow" and critic noted that this song is connected with Eminem's life struggles. Steve 'Flash' Juon called the remix bad and he continued: "the new one (remix version) is lifeless and oddly out of place among an album full of mostly dope cuts." Rob Sheffield wrote: "the wife-killing jokes of "'97 Bonnie and Clyde" aren't any funnier than Garth Brooks'." Entertainment Weekly wrote a positive opinion: "In the album's funniest slice of black humor, a smart-ass parody of Will Smith's unctuous Just the Two of Us called 97' Bonnie & Clyde, Eminem and his baby daughter take a pleasant drive to a lake — into which he tosses the dead body of the child's mother. Sending up the gooey sentiments and pop melody of the Smith hit, Eminem raps: Mama said she wants to show you how far she can float/And don't worry about that little boo-boo on her throat."
"'03 Bonnie & Clyde" was generally received with favorable reviews by music critics, who complimented the combination of Jay-Z's and Beyoncé's musical styles, their collaboration and the song's production. The single reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Jay-Z's second top ten single and Beyoncé's first as a solo artist. It charted at number two in the United Kingdom and peaked in the top twenty in other European territories. "'03 Bonnie & Clyde" was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA).
Bonnie Elizabeth Parker (October 1, 1910 – May 23, 1934) and Clyde Chestnut Barrow a.k.a. Clyde Champion Barrow (March 24, 1909 – May 23, 1934) were criminals who traveled the central United States with their gang during the Great Depression, robbing and killing people. At times, the gang included Buck Barrow, Blanche Barrow, Raymond Hamilton, W. D. Jones, Joe Palmer, Ralph Fults, and Henry Methvin. Their exploits captured the attention of the American public during the "Public Enemy Era", between 1931 and 1935. Though known today for his dozen-or-so bank robberies, Barrow preferred to rob small stores or rural gas stations. The gang is believed to have killed at least nine police officers and several civilians. The couple were eventually ambushed and killed by law officers near the town of Sailes, in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. Their reputation was revived and cemented in American pop folklore by Arthur Penn's 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde, in which they were played by Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty.

Probably the most famous Clyde was Clyde Barrow (1910-1934) of infamous bank-robbing, murdering duo Bonnie and Clyde ... In December 2013 a “Bonnie and Clyde” television miniseries starring Emile Hirsch as Barrow aired on A&E, History, and Lifetime.
On this day in 1934, notorious American outlaws Bonnie and Clyde were killed in a police shootout in Louisiana... In 2013, The Times' Mary McNamara wrote about the A&E miniseries 'Bonnie and Clyde' that looked great but didn't make sense historically.
