Prior to his election to the City Council, Blumenfield served in the California State Assembly from 2008 – 2013. He was the first Democratic freshman Assemblymember to ever serve as the Chair of the Budget Committee. During his four-year tenure as Chair, he led the State from the brink of economic insolvency to structural balance and surplus. He delivered his last three budgets on-time and balanced – a feat that hadn’t been achieved during the prior 25 years. In addition, he radically changed the budget process to make it more transparent and accountable.
How Bob Blumenfield Converted his Office Lot into Safe Parking for Homeless
Many Angelenos literally cannot afford to live in this City and have turned to sleeping in their cars rather than on the street. Living in their car is no easy feat. These folks are constantly moving from one lot to the next, being kicked out, threated, and worse. Frustrated with this situation in the West Valley, I partnered with Safe Parking LA to convert my District Office parking lot into a secure overnight space for folks to park theirs cars and get the rest they need. Equipped with a bathroom and overnight security, my safe parking lot is helping those in need sleep at night so they can find work, an apartment, and fully bounce back on their feet.
