Blackpooli/ˈblækpuːl/ is a seaside resort in Lancashire, England, on England's northwest coast. The town is on the Irish Sea, between the Ribble and Wyre estuaries, 17.5 miles (28.2km) northwest of Preston, 27 miles (43km) north of Liverpool, 30 miles (48km) northwest of Bolton and 40 miles (64km) northwest of Manchester. It had an estimated population of 142,065 at the 2011 Census.
Throughout the Middle Ages and Early Modern period, Blackpool was a coastal hamlet in Lancashire's Hundred of Amounderness, and remained such until the mid-18th century when it became fashionable in England to travel to the coast in the summer to bathe in sea water to improve well-being. In 1781, visitors attracted to Blackpool's 7-mile (11km) sandy beach were able to use a new private road, built by Thomas Clifton and Sir Henry Hoghton. Stagecoaches began running to Blackpool from Manchester in the same year, and from Halifax in 1782. In the early 19th century, Henry Banks and his son-in-law John Cocker erected new buildings in Blackpool such that its population grew from less than 500 in 1801 to over 2,500 in 1851. St John's Church in Blackpool was consecrated in 1821.
General Election 1939/40:
Another General Election was required to take place before the end of 1940. The political parties had been making preparations for an election to take place from 1939 and by the end of this year, the following candidates had been selected; *Conservative: Roland Robinson
Blackpool is a British television musicalcomedy drama serial, produced in-house by the BBC. It was screened on BBC One as six one-hour episodes on Thursday nights at 9pm from 11 November to 16 December 2004. When retransmitted by BBC America in 2005, it was renamed Viva Blackpool, and went on to win a Peabody Award for BBC Worldwide, the commercial overseas distribution subsidiary of the BBC. A sequel in the form of a TV movie was produced by the BBC, also called Viva Blackpool in the UK (2006).
Plot
The plot concerns the murder of a young man in a Blackpool arcade, and how it affects the people involved in the arcade and the investigation:
Ripley Holden (David Morrissey), the ambitious, arrogant arcade owner who believes strongly in luck, and who is planning to turn his arcade into a Las Vegas-style casino hotel and thus revive Blackpool's fortunes;
DI Peter Carlisle (David Tennant), the investigating officer of the murder: a charming and good-natured, although extremely manipulative, police officer, who dislikes Holden almost on sight;
The area now called England was first inhabited by modern humans during the Upper Palaeolithic period, but takes its name from the Angles, one of the Germanic tribes who settled during the 5th and 6th centuries. England became a unified state in the 10th century, and since the Age of Discovery, which began during the 15th century, has had a significant cultural and legal impact on the wider world. The English language, the Anglican Church, and English law – the basis for the common law legal systems of many other countries around the world – developed in England, and the country's parliamentary system of government has been widely adopted by other nations. The Industrial Revolution began in 18th-century England, transforming its society into the world's first industrialised nation.
Great Britain and Ireland was a set of special commemorativepostage stamps issued by the Royal Mail in 2006. The stamps were the final part of the British Journey series, which had previously featured Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. It was available as mint stamps, as a presentation pack, stamps cards, and a first day cover.
British Journey series
These stamps are the final issue in the British Journey series; which started in 2003 with Scotland, followed in 2004 with Northern Ireland and Wales, and South West England in 2005. The series was brought to a premature end with this issue due to a lack of popularity amongst collectors.
Stamp details
The stamps were issued as a block of stamps, five wide by two deep. The photographs selected for this issue show no sky but are intended to demonstrate the colours and textures of the United Kingdom. All values are first class.
The Anglo-Saxon mission began in the last decade of the 7th century in Frisia, whence, Benedict reminded the monks he urged to come to the continental missions, their forebears had come: "Take pity on them, for they themselves are now saying, 'We are of one blood and one bone with you.'" The missions, which drew down the energy and initiative of the English church, spread south and east from there. Almost immediately the Anglo-Saxon missionaries came in contact with the Pippinids, the new dominant family in Frankish territories. The earliest monastery founded by Anglo-Saxons on the continent is Willibrord's Abbey of Echternach (698), founded at a villa granted him by a daughter of Dagobert II. Pepin II, who wished to extend his influence in the Low Countries, granted free passage to Rome to Willibrord, to be consecrated Bishop of Frisia; Norman F. Cantor singles this out as the first joint project between Carolingians and the Papacy: "It set the pattern for their increasing association in the first half of the 8th century as a result of their joint support of the efforts of the Anglo-Saxon missionaries"

About Blackpool itself:
Blackpool is a large town and seaside resort on the north west coast of England. The town is on the Irish Sea, between the Ribble and Wyre estuaries, 15 miles (24 km) west of Preston, 27 miles (43 km) north of Liverpool, 28 miles (45 km) northwest of Bolton and 40 miles (64 km) northwest of Manchester. At the 2011 Census, the unitary authority of Blackpool had an estimated population of 139,720, while the wider built-up area, which also includes areas outside the unitary authority, had a population of 239,409. This is the 2nd largest in Lancashire, as well as the fifth most populous urban area in the larger North West England region, after Manchester, Liverpool, Preston and Birkenhead.
It's definitely worth saying that Blackpool is known as the oldest resort in the United Kingdom. Starting from the 19th century this place was visited by rich British people, who found here high-quality universal rest. Wonderful embankment attracts hundreds of tourists even today. If in previous years this city has often been flooded by water, today the embankment is paved with good-looking bricks and water doesn’t threat the locals and visitors of Blackpool anymore.
An interesting fact – this town is considered a marine one, however, it doesn’t have its own port. Blackpool got a status of an administrative center in 1998. This place is also known for giving birth to a famous brand of sport cars – Jaguar.
Probably, the most popular event in Blackpool is the festival of light. Each year it attracts many people from surrounding regions and tourists.
One of the most notable sights in the city is Blackpool Tower. This is a great historical sight. Even though it has built over 2 centuries ago, the tower is in great condition and is traditionally liked by travellers. The Promenade Street can also be called a sight, and you should also visit the local park of attractions – these places will definitely deliver to you good mood.
Blackpool Pleasure Beach amusement park will be a great place to relax with children. The choice of attractions here is just huge. The youngest has available, a huge selection of roundabouts. They will be able to ride a mini-train and play with the animators dressed in the costumes of their favorite cartoon characters. Those who prefer more exciting attractions, have available in the park for their pleasure, roller coaster with dead loops and several types of catapults. There are also unusual water attractions in the entertainment center. In the summer, fountains always work on its territory.
One of the main historic symbols of the city are considered to be the old Blackpool trams; according to some sources, they were the first trams in England. They run on the central square and streets of the city, and now, a trip to this historic tram is one of the favourite entertainment for tourists. It is most interesting to ride the trams in the evening, when they are decorated with spectacular illuminations.
Among the other attractions worth mentioning is St. John Church, which is located in the eponymous square. It was built in 1821 and has completely preserved the original appearance, there is plenty of popular restaurants and cafes in the square next to the church.

Noisey Blackpool: The Controversial Rise of Blackpool Grime, hosted by Poet and starring Afghan Dan, Soph Aspin and Little T.
The last few years have seen a huge resurgence in UK grime and there are now a whole bunch of talented MCs around the UK with growing fanbases.
However, when a Youtube channel called Blackpool Grime Media, started getting a lot of attention earlier this year, it took a lot of people by surprise.
Not only were most of the MCs on there extremely young, but they all seems to be insulting each other using some very offensive language. Plus the amount the views they were getting was insane.
Noisey sent a team up to follow the three key players in the scene - Little T, Soph Aspin and Afghan Dan.Why was this happening? Why Blackpool? Was the beef real and did these kids have what it takes to forge a genuine career?

And a recent report by Blackpool council revealed that the local authority was the most deprived in England and that the town was blighted by a raft of problems, many of which were related to the demise of the traditional tourism economy.
