Black Fingernails, Red Wine is the third studio album by Eskimo Joe, released on 10 June 2006. The album became their first Australian ARIA Albums Chart #1, debuting at that spot on the chart week of 19 June 2006. The album has been certified 4x Platinum in Australia. It is their best selling album to date. The album was released as the band's debut album in the United States on 25 September 2007.
In early 2007 a special edition of the album was released featured a bonus remix EP which was originally sold at Eskimo Joe concerts during their Beating like a Drum tour.
Production
To record the album the band enlisted sound engineer, Matt Lovell (The Mess Hall, Jebediah, Sleepy Jackson) and also stepped up to the desk and took on production duties themselves for the first time.
The album is noted for being heavily influenced by the production techniques and sound of early 80's rock, with many similarities to vintage Icehouse and INXS. James Law guested on keyboards on the album, and, in Juice Magazine, referred to his contributions as "funkalicous '80s cult of snap jam pumping flavas." This has led to Tony Martin (Get This, Triple M), back-announcing their songs by calling them 'INXSkimo Joe'. Kavyen Temperley explains "I always think of things in a concept-record type of way. So I wanted to make a record as if we were a stadium rock band" "If we were like INXS, what kind of record would I want to write?". Interestingly enough, the band recorded Black Fingernails, Red Wine on the central coast of NSW's "The Grove Studios." The Grove Studios were originally known as "Mangrove Studios" and were formerly owned by INXS bass player Garry Gary Beers.
"Black Fingernails, Red Wine" is the first single by Australian alternative rock band Eskimo Joe, taken from their third studio album of the same name. It has been their most successful single to date: their first song to chart in the top ten of the ARIA Singles Chart (peaking at #6); spent 19 weeks in the top 20, and won Single of the Year at the ARIA Music Awards of 2006. It also made #2 on the Triple JHottest 100, 2006. The single was released as the band's debut single in the United States in August 2007.
Showed the band members in a car, kidnapping people in the middle of the night. At the end of the video, the kidnapped people were revealed to be Eskimo Joe themselves. When Kavyen Temperley was a guest on The Glass House, he offered that this symbolised that Eskimo Joe had changed, and the kidnapped band were the old Eskimo Joe.
A simple performance video, showing the band playing in an old building.
Due to the criminal theme of the first video, it received an MA15+ classification in Australia, restricting it to night-time airplay. The second promo clip was made to enable the song to be played by daytime music shows.

Eskimo Joe have been on our wish list for a while now. So when we got the message that 'The Eskies' were keen to jump on tram on the day of the Grand Final Parade, we jumped at the chance!
Hot off the stage performing for Sunrise from 5am in the morning (and a red eye flight the night before) these guys didn't show any hint of slowing down!
We were treated to 3 songs: 'Black Fingernails, Red Wine', 'From the Sea', and the amazing new single 'Got What You Need'
Keep your eyes out for one of the commuters jumping in and asking for an autograph halfway through the set - priceless!
