Behavioral neuroscience, also known as biological psychology, biopsychology, or psychobiology is the application of the principles of biology to the study of physiological, genetic, and developmental mechanisms of behavior in humans and other animals. It typically investigates at the level of neurons, neurotransmitters, brain circuitry, hormones and the evolutionary and developmental processes that underlie normal and abnormal behavior. Often, experiments in behavioral neuroscience involve animal models (such as rats and mice, and non-human primates) which have implications for better understanding of human pathology and therefore contribute to evidence-based practice.
History
Behavioral neuroscience as a scientific discipline emerged from a variety of scientific and philosophical traditions in the 18th and 19th centuries. In philosophy, people like René Descartes proposed physical models to explain animal and human behavior. Descartes, for example, suggested that the pineal gland, a midline unpaired structure in the brain of many organisms, was the point of contact between mind and body. Descartes also elaborated on a theory in which the pneumatics of bodily fluids could explain reflexes and other motor behavior. This theory was inspired by moving statues in a garden in Paris.
The editor-in-chief is Ottmar V. Lipp (University of Queensland). Biological Psychology publishes research on the biological aspects of psychological states and processes, including electrophysiology, biochemical assessments during psychological experiments, and biologically induced changes in psychological function.
Let's learn all about the human brain! It's the most complex and fascinating object in the known universe. It's the source of our consciousness, so we wouldn't be much without it. This course will assume prior knowledge from my biochemistry, biology, and anatomy & physiology courses, so make sure to prepare for this playlist by viewing parts of those. If you're ready to go, let's get right to it!

01:44 Strengths of Biological Psychology
02:30 Weaknesses of Biological Psychology
Biological psychology focuses on the relationship between our biological makeup and our behaviour and experiences. It is responsible for discovering that the structure of our nervous system (including our brains) and the action of chemicals have a big effect on our behaviour. However, an important question is how much of our biology affects us?

Kelly Lambert, author of Biological Psychology, talks about what makes her textbook an effective teaching tool. http://www.oxfordpresents.com/ms/lambert/
Kelly Lambert (Ph.D University of Georgia) authored Biological Psychology. Biological Psychology, while respecting the traditional content in biopsychology, introduces new and emerging themes that are redefining the field. Although behavioral neuroscience has many aspects, the theme of context is especially relevant and the introductory chapter of this text classifies as part of “context” both environmental and experiential factors that influence neurobiological variables. Through this “brain in context” approach, students will learn to appreciate the influential role of context in their brains’ continuous adaptation throughout their liv...
