The Best Kind of Dutch Cycling Infrastructure
Watch this video ad-free on Nebula: https://nebula.tv/videos/not-just-bikes-the-best-way-to-cycle-bicycle-only-roads-in-the-netherlands
When we first moved to the Netherlands, the most amazing thing to us was bicycle-only roads. Using these, we could go long distances in and out of the city without ever needing to stop, and with almost no interaction with cars.
This kind of road totally changed cycling for me, making me actually enjoy cycling, instead of just doing it because it was the fastest way to get around.

How The Netherlands Built a Biking Utopia

Today the Netherlands is known for its incredible bike infrastructure. But this European country wasn’t always a utopia for cyclists.
For the last 6 months I've been obsessed with this question: How did the Netherlands go from having traffic-clogged cities to having some of the world's best bike infrastructure.
In this video I want to share what I learned with you and why I think there might just be hope for my car-obsessed society here in America.
Thanks to @NotJustBikes for letting me use some footage of car-free streets. If you haven't seen Jason's videos, I highly recommending checking out his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@NotJustBike...

Bike Lanes Have A Deadly Design Flaw - Cheddar Explains
With an increasing number of cyclists taking to the streets, bike lanes have become a critically important part of city transportation. They provide safer avenues of travel for cyclists in cities. But, while bike lanes are substantially safer for bikers than sharing a road with vehicles, they still aren't perfect. And one design flaw, in particular, can often be fatal.

Five Design Principles for Bicycle Infrastructure; Attractiveness
Safe and successful bicycle infrastructure is built on five design principles. These principles apply no matter where you are in the world. Whether you are a beginner or an expert or if you are applying CROW, NACTO or other design standards: these design principles apply to each situation! Visit www.dtvcapacitybuilding.com for e-courses, training possibilities and articles on the design principles.
In this knowledge clip Teije Gorris of DTV Capacity Building introduces one of the design principles; Attractiveness. Attractiveness is a very personal one. One that is influenced by many elements. But there are some commonalities that can be used when planning and designing cycling infrastructure guidance .

Mayor Anne Hidalgos has become famous for her pro-cycling and pro-people policies, and for taking away space from automobiles. With a goal of becoming "100% Cyclable" by 2026, Paris is changing quickly.
For this video I took an NJB "Business Trip" to Paris to see these changes for myself.

If you haven't seen Jason's videos, I highly recommending checking out his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@NotJustBikes
