THE GANGSTERS AND THE GIRL (1914)- Charles Ray, Betty Burbridge, Alma Ruebens
Thomas Ince’s 1914 film “The Gangsters and the Girl” seems to have been patterned off of D. W. Griffith’s 1912 “Musketeers of Pig Alley”. Though Griffith’s work is far more unified and has more interesting shot compositions, “Gangsters” has more exciting chase and gunfight scenes. Keep your eyes peeled for a young Alma Ruebns and Thomas Ince in minor roles at the beginning. Huge thanks to Christopher Snowden for loaning me his 8mm film print to scan and score! Enjoy!
