"His name was Jason. I was working the day that it happened, preparing meals. Here. I was the cook," Palmer said in "Friday the 13th" playing the character Mrs. Voorhees.
MovieWeb interviewed Palmer in 2009, and it was clear she didn't think the role would be the highlight of her career, and only took it to buy a new car:

Betsy Palmer 1991 Interview with Brad Lemack (courtesy of RerunIt.com)
I have known actress Betsy Palmer since I was 15 years old. That’s a lot of years. I have been her manager since the mid-1980’s. That’s also a lot of years. I’m so sad to have to report that Betsy died last Friday (5/29/15), at age 88, of natural causes, in a hospice care center near her Connecticut home. She was one of the most gracious, kind, generous and loving people I have ever known. No holiday, no birthday, no personal event ever went unacknowledged or celebrated. Today I celebrate Betsy and the wonderful life she led. While she achieved fame and success for the work she did, she earned admiration and respect for the person she was.
There are many, many happy memories for me. One of them happened on April 1991, when Betsy and I met for a chat on the live coffee shop chat series my ...

‘Friday the 13th’ actress Betsy Palmer dead at 88
Betsy Palmer, the veteran character actress who achieved lasting fame as the murderous camp cook in the cheesy horror film "Friday the 13th," has died at age 88. Palmer died Friday of natural causes at a hospice care center in Connecticut, her longtime manager, Brad Lemack, told The Associated Press on Sunday. Palmer had appeared in films, on Broadway and in TV shows for decades before she took the role of Mrs. Voorhees in the 1980 movie in which young camp counselors suddenly begin meeting their bloody demise. Her film credits included "Mr. Roberts" with Henry Fonda, "The Long Gray Line" with Tyrone Power and Maureen O'Hara, "Queen Bee" with Joan Crawford, and "The Tin Star" with Fonda and Anthony Perkins.

"And here we are, 25 years later, it's a cult film, I am the Queen of the slashers ... and maybe after I'm done and gone, they'll still love Mrs. Voorhees," Palmer said in an interview.
It's true. All the headlines seemed to be focusing on that one role.
Palmer did also play other roles, of course. She was a lieutenant in "Mister Roberts," and appeared in several other TV and movie roles. She was also on Broadway.
Palmer died of natural causes at a Connecticut hospice center and is survived by her daughter.

There are many, many happy memories for me. One of them happened on April 1991, when Betsy and I met for a chat on the live coffee shop chat series my crew and I were doing from Beverly Hills. CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Alice (Adrienne King) fights for her life with Mrs. Voorhees (Betsy Palmer).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
One of the longest-running horror film series began with this gory shocker from director Sean S. Cunningham, who had previously produced Wes Craven's classic Last House on the Left. Entrepreneur Steve Christie (Peter Brouwer) re-opens Camp Crystal Lake after many years during which it has been cursed by murders and bad luck. The young and nubile counselors all begin to die extremely bloody deaths at the hands of an unseen killer during a rainstorm which isolates the camp. A woman is chopped in the face with an axe, another has her throat sliced in amazingly gruesome fashion, a male counselor (Harry Crosby) is pinned to a door with arrows, and a young Kevin Bacon has an arrow shoved through his throat from below a bed. Victor Miller's script is not particularly impressive, but Cunningham's tense direction, and some remarkable special-effects by acclaimed makeup artist Tom Savini are enough to make it worthwhile. 1950s quiz show regular Betsy Palmer appears as the cook whose son, Jason (Ari Lehman), drowned 25 years earlier while neglected by romancing counselors. Palmer was reportedly cast because she was willing to drive her own car to and from the set. Trivia buffs should note the decapitation scene near the end, in which the female killer exhibits rather hirsute hands clutching at the air. The hands belong to Savini's assistant, Taso N. Stavrakis. Friday the 13th made over 20 million dollars at the box office and spawned numerous sequels.
