Founded in 1741 by Moravian settlers and nicknamed the “Christmas City”, Bethlehem Pa., once held a world-wide reputation for its steel manufacturing. Today the town is well into a cultural and economic leadership position in the Lehigh Valley. Home to Lehigh University and Moravian College, the city also has seen a growth in restaurants, art galleries and shopping in its historic district, South Side and in the Wind Creek Casino complex. Wind Creek is a casino with slot machines and table games, restaurants, hotels and nightclubs. The facility has expanded as more buildings that formerly belonged to Bethlehem Steel are either converted to new use or torn down to make way for new construction. Another well worn film - this one even has a (worn) soundtrack! It gets a little rougher as it gets towards the end, but is still very watchable. A little historic perspective of the town of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in a time where virtually every place was a "Ma & Pa" business. some still exist today but sadly, most are gone..

The Wind Creek Event Center draws top-name musical acts throughout the year. The residential neighborhoods closest to this new complex are Historic Bethlehem and Saucon Valley, as well as Fountain Hill. Redevelopment along E. Fourth Street from the casino complex through to the border with Hellertown has changed the corridor from one of empty buildings to new business park campuses and even a greenway that runs from the start of the South Side all the way to Hellertown.
Bethlehem is also home to Musikfest, an annual celebration of music with free performances taking place throughout the historic district and at other nearby venues. Each year’s event draws about 1,000,000 visitors.
The Christmas season is celebrated in style in Bethlehem’s charming historic district, where a vibrant Main Street is anchored by 18th-century Moravian settler buildings and historic Hotel Bethlehem and lined with independently-owned shops and restaurants. The surrounding residential area presents streetscapes with 18th- and 19th-century homes tastefully restored. Special events take place throughout December, including Christkindlmarkt, a German-inspired holiday shopping area that now sets up at the casino complex. Ring in the New Year as a giant Peep drops (Just Born candy, maker of Peeps and other sweets, is headquartered in Bethlehem).
Major employers in Bethlehem include St. Luke's Hospital, Lehigh University, B. Braun Medical, Just Born, Dun & Bradstreet, Moravian College, Cigars International and others.

There are four sections to Bethlehem: central Bethlehem, the south side, the east side, and the west side. Each of these sections blossomed at different times in the city's development and each contains areas recognized under the National Register of Historic Places. ZIP codes that use the address Bethlehem totaled 116,000 in population in 2000. These ZIP Codes include Bethlehem Township and Hanover Township.
The Norfolk Southern Railway's Lehigh Line (formerly the main line of the Lehigh Valley Railroad) runs through Bethlehem heading east to Easton and across the Delaware River to Phillipsburg, New Jersey. The Norfolk Southern Railway's Reading Line runs through Bethlehem and west to Allentown and Reading.
Bethlehem has a long historical relationship with the celebration of Christmas. The city was christened as Bethlehem on Christmas Eve 1741 by Nicolaus Zinzendorf, a Moravian bishop. In 1747, Bethlehem was the first U.S. city to feature a decorated Christmas tree. On December 7, 1937, at a grand ceremony during the Great Depression, the city adopted the nickname "Christmas City USA" in a large ceremony.[6] It is one of several Lehigh Valley locations, including Emmaus, Egypt, and Allentown's Jordan Creek, whose names were inspired by locations referenced in the Bible. The Lehigh River, a 109-mile-long (175 km) tributary of the Delaware River, flows through the city.
Bethlehem borders Allentown to its west and is 48 miles (77 km) north of Philadelphia and 72 miles (116 km) west of New York City.

Lehigh Valley kicks off a new Tour in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania! In this Tour, we visit the cities of Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton to get a historic experience like no other. In the beginning of our trip, we stop in Allentown, visiting the America on Wheels Museum. Then we make a pit stop in the borough of Coplay to marvel at the Coplay Cement Kilns, the first cement in America. Following Allentown, we head into Easton and walk across the National Canal Museum to experience the merge of the Delaware & Lehigh Rivers. We then spend time in the town of Easton to explore some of their holiday scenes. Closing out our adventure, we go to Bethlehem and explore the National Industrial Quarters, the first in known industrial park in America. Then we go to the culmination of our trip in the Steel Stacks and Christmas city. I'll see you on tour!
