Serum Globulin Test | Globulin Blood Test | Globulin Electrophoresis |
A globulin blood test measures the levels of a group of proteins called globulins in blood serum
There are four types of globulin proteins: Alpha 1, Alpha 2, beta, and gamma globulin proteins.
Globulins make up a little less than half of the proteins in the blood
These proteins have several functions, including immune defense, transporting substances, and enzymatic processes
Why do I need a globulin test?
Your health care provider may order globulin tests:
As part of your regular checkup
To help diagnose specific conditions when you have symptoms
To monitor liver or kidney problems
Two subtypes of the globulin test can be used to test for these proteins: a total protein test or a serum protein electrophoresis test.

Albumin/Globulin Ratio Test | A/G Ratio | Total Protein Test |
A/G ratio is a test that compares the concentrations of albumin and globulin in the blood
Why this test is done
The purpose the test is to measure the ratio of albumins to globulins.
Since its results give insight into your nutritional status and immune function, this blood test is also useful for diagnosing and monitoring many health conditions.
also used to screen and monitor kidney disease, chronic infections, various cancers, and more.
Results & Interpretation
The normal range for albumin/globulin ratio is over 1.... That’s because there’s a bit more albumin than globulin in serum protein.
If your body is producing too much or too little of either protein, your A/G ratio will be classified as high or low

Two subtypes of the globulin test can be used to test for these proteins: a total protein test or a serum protein electrophoresis test.
Total Protein Test
total protein test may be included in a CMP
Your provider may order the test if you have symptoms of kidney or liver disease.
your provider thinks you may have a liver disease, a total protein test may be done with other tests that check how well your liver is working. These tests are called liver function tests.
serum protein electrophoresis
This test measures the levels of the different types of globulins and other proteins in your blood.
Your provider may order this test to diagnose disorders related to your immune system, including:
Allergies
Autoimmune diseases such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis
Multiple myeloma, a type of cancer
What do the results mean?
Low globulin levels may be a sign of liver or kidney disease, or malnutrition.
High globulin levels may be a sign of:
Infection
Inflammatory disease
Immune disorders
Certain cancers, such as multiple myeloma, Hodgkin lymphoma or malignant lymphoma

In this video, we’re going to talk about blood proteins. I’m going to make this very simple so you can get a full understanding of what blood proteins are and why they matter.
There are two primary types of protein in the blood: albumin and antibodies. These represent most of the protein in your blood.
The liver creates albumin. The purpose of this protein is to hold the fluid in your blood. If you have liver damage, you won’t be able to hold fluid in your blood. Instead, the fluid goes out through your urine and into your tissues—also known as edema. Fluid can also build up in the sack in your abdominal area—this is called ascites.
Albumin also helps transport hormones, electrolytes, vitamins, certain drugs, and fatty acids.
The other type of protein is antibodies. Antibodies are produced by immune cells that help you with your immunity. They are Y-shaped proteins that are like receptors. They connect with something called an antigen—this is a piece of a pathogen, like a bacterium, virus, or other foreign substance that doesn’t need to be in the body.
When antibodies connect with antigens, they neutralize a pathogen, tag or identify pathogens, regulate inflammation, and kill off unhealthy cells.
High blood proteins could be a sign of an infection, dehydration, or cancer. High protein in your urine could signal kidney damage, excess protein consumption, too much exercise, drinking too much water, or you’re using creatine.

Low A/G ratio
A low A/G ratio could indicate...
your albumin levels are too low ...that is (hypoalbuminemia),
or your globulin levels are too high.
Overall, a low A/G ratio result is associated with the following...
kidney disease
liver disease,
chronic infections
malnutrition
pancreatitis
autoimmune diseases
certain cancers
type 2 diabetes
High A/G ratio
High albumin concentration can be caused either.... by overproduction of albumin by the liver, ....or when serum levels are too low.
Hyperalbiminuria can be due to severe dehydration or diarrhea,
A high A/G result might also indicate low levels of globulin, which are found in people with antibody deficiencies meaning a weakened immune system

Thanks for watching. I hope this helped clear up what blood proteins are and why they matter. I’ll see you in the next video.
No adverse health consequences ... He also took the GSK/Sanofi Vidprevtyn Beta vaccine. Researchers measured the quantity of HIM’s anti-spike SARS-CoV-2 immuno-globulin (IgG) levels, starting with measurements before the 214th vaccination ... ImageCredit ... Dr.
