Hanover is a borough in York County, Pennsylvania, 19 miles (31km) southwest of York and 54 miles (87km) north-northwest of Baltimore, Maryland and is 5 miles (8.0km) north of the Mason-Dixon line. The town is situated in a productive agricultural region. The population was 15,289 at the 2010 census. The borough is served by the 717 area code and the Zip Codes of 17331-34. Hanover is named after the German city of Hannover.
History
In 1727, John Digges, an Irish nobleman of Prince George's County, Maryland, obtained a grant of 10,000 acres (40km2) of land where Hanover is now located from Charles Calvert, the fourth Lord Baltimore. The area was called Digges Choice, and in 1730, a group of Catholics started the settlement that became known as the Conewego Settlement. Settlers from both Maryland and Pennsylvania began moving into the area in the 1730s. At this time, the northern border of Maryland and the southern border of Pennsylvania did not agree with each other, and the area that is now Hanover was in the disputed area claimed by both states. This led to numerous disputes about property ownership from the 1730s until 1760. The dispute was settled when Maryland and Pennsylvania hired British experts Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon to survey what became known as the Mason–Dixon Line. This line was surveyed between 1763 and 1767, and put an end to decades of disputes over rights and ownership.
Madison is located at 36°23'13" North, 79°58'9" West (36.386818, -79.969276).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.3 square miles (8.5km2), of which, 3.3 square miles (8.5km2) of it is land and 0.30% is water.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1.3km2), all of it land.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 510 people, 219 households, and 158 families residing in the borough. The population density was 962.6 people per square mile (371.5/km²). There were 225 housing units at an average density of 424.7 per square mile (163.9/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 99.41% White, 0.20% Asian, and 0.39% from two or more races.
There were 219 households out of which 22.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.6% were married couples living together, 6.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.4% were non-families. 23.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.74.
Madison is a passenger rail station along the Shore Line East commuter rail line, which runs on the Northeast Corridor between New Haven and New London. Madison station consists of a mid-sized parking lot and one high-level side platform on the southbound side of the tracks. A second platform and three-story parking garage are planned for the future. The garage will allow the station, which is less than half a mile from I-95 and US-1, to serve as a park-and-ride station.
Madison is a commuter-only station; Amtrak's Acela Express and Northeast Regional services run through the station without stopping. Madison is served by about 11 Shore Line East trains in each direction on weekdays and 5 in each direction on weekends.
History
New Haven Railroad
The New Haven & New London Railroad was charted in 1848, began construction in 1850, and opened for service in July 1852. A station was located off Wall Street just north of downtown Madison. The line was owned by the New York, Providence and Boston Railroad (the "Stonington Road") from 1858 to 1862, and by the Shore Line Railway from 1864 until it was acquired by the New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railroad (the "New Haven") in 1870. The New Haven continued local service along the route, including the stop at Madison, for nearly another century. Commuter service east of New Haven ceased on January 1, 1969, after the New Haven merged into Penn Central.
Its name comes from the fact that two of the city's main parks, West Park and Bantock Park, lie within its boundaries. The ward also contains the Chapel Ash conservation area and also the Parkdale conservation area. Some other interesting architecture can be seen within the ward, particularly on the Tettenhall Road, such as first Mayor of Wolverhampton, George Thorneycroft's House. Two of the city's main thoroughfares are contained largely within the ward, namely the A41 Tettenhall Road and the Compton Road (A454.
The Halfway House on Tettenhall Road was formerly a coaching house on the London to Holyhead route and as the name suggests, was the half way point. It was a pub for many years but is currently (2009) closed and for sale.
Park is an electoral ward of the Borough of Reading, in the English county of Berkshire. It is the far eastern ward and is bordered to its west by Abbey and Redlands wards. On the north, east and south it is bordered by the civil parish of Earley in the Borough of Wokingham.
As with all wards, apart from smaller Mapledurham, it elects three councillors to Reading Borough Council. Elections since 2004 are held by thirds, with elections in three years out of four.
In the 2011, 2012 and 2014 a Green Party candidate won each election.
The restaurant is housed in the 5-star hotel "Park Hotel Kenmare", which was established in 1897.
In the periods that the restaurant was awarded Michelin stars, headchef were Colin O'Daly (1983-1985), Brian Cleere (1994-1995),Bruno Schmidt and the late Matthew d'Arcy

Hanover is a borough in York county Pennsylvania, 19 miles southwest of York, and 54 miles away from Baltimore Maryland.
It’s home to several snack food companies, like Snyder’s of Hanover, Utz Quality Foods, and several others in neighboring towns, such as Hershey’s and Herr’s. When you drive through the main square, don’t forget to take a look at the historic monument there. The memorial was erected in 1904 in remembrance of The Battle of Hanover, which was a prelude to the battle of Gettysburg. It is believed that Hanover saved the fate of the nation, so Hanover is a pretty big deal!
After taking in the historical sights, you might find yourself hungry. Thankfully, Hanover is home to one place that has food so good, people drive in from other states for a bite. Pretzel pizza cafe has an entire menu based off of fresh made pretzel products, including pizza, wraps, sandwiches, and pretzel dogs. Their most popular items are anything crab-related. Pizza, wraps, sandwiches; if there’s crab on it, it’s a favorite. If you’re still hungry after devouring their delicious pretzel options, make sure you give their incredible milkshakes a try! They’re topped with candy and ice cream, and people drive for hours to get their hands on them.
For breakfast and lunch, make sure you stop in at Firehouse Grill. Their most popular meal is breakfast. The locals love their home fries and onions, and the Firehouse Omelet. Enjoy their homemade soups and desserts, all with a firehouse vibe.
Just up the road in Littlestown is Ma’s general store. She sells all kinds of products, such as antiques, braided rugs, moccasins, candles, coffee, and food. The building is an old barn, built in the late 1800s, and has maintained much of its original features. Come on down to Ma’s General Store so you can enjoy the nostalgia!
And finally, one of our favorite stops in Hanover has got to be a cute little shop that features plant-based gifts! The Succulent Hippie is home to a beautiful variety of plants, including plant-related gifts and accessories. You can learn everything there is to know about plants, and test out your new plant expertise by taking one home to care for!
