1946 Baseball Hall of Fame Jesse Burkett
In a career linked with Cy Young, Jesse Burkett played for the Cleveland Spiders in the 1890s, where he set records for hits and batting. He twice topped the .400 mark, and scored 100 runs or more nine times. He earned his nickname "Crab", not because of his playing style, but due to his surly disposition.
Best Season, 1896
One of the finest seasons by any player prior to 1900, Burkett laced 240 hits, including 27 doubles, 16 triples, and six homers. He scored 160 runs in 133 games, batting .410 with a .461 OBP.
Factoid
Jesse Burkett is only one of five players to hit .400 in a season multiple times.
Burkett pitched in 23 games and had a dismal 3-11 record with a 5.56 ERA. He was wild, to put it mildly. He walked more than 90 batters in 123 innings.

1946 Hall of Fame - Frank Chance
Frank Chance managed and starred for the Cubs when they were contenders early in the 20th century. He played on and led four Cub pennant-winners, including the 1906 squad that set an all-time record with 116 regular season wins.
He was forced to retire from the game when he developed chronic headaches from several meanings.
A natural leader, Chance refused to accept anything less than complete loyalty from his players. When Heinie Zimmerman, ten years older than Chance, challenged Chance's decision during a game, the Cub skipper took Zim into the clubhouse and pulverized him.
As a manager, Chance demanded perfection, a trait which alienated some of his players, but produced amazing results. From 19 of six thru 19 ten, the Cubs won five hundred and thirty games and posted a six ninety...

Baseball Hall of Fame STORY - 1936 to 2000 Episode 1
This video covers the story of the #baseball Hall of Fame, from the beginnings to the rules and standards for induction to the evolution of the voting process over time. I've split this into two videos to make it easier, so this video will cover the very first Hall of Fame ballot in 1936 until about 2001. This is a pretty high-level history of the #HallofFame geared toward anyone interested in learning the very basics of how it has come to be the institution that it is. I'll review the BBWAA Writers Ballot and changes in the rules for eligibility and balloting process over time, the Old-Timers Committee that first elected players and executives from the 1800s, and the Hall of Fame Committee on Baseball Veterans that operated from 1953 until 2001.

As a manager, Chance demanded perfection, a trait which alienated some of his players, but produced amazing results. From 19 of six thru 19 ten, the Cubs won five hundred and thirty games and posted a six ninety three winning percentage - the best five-year record in the history of baseball.
During his playing days, Chance was the first baseman in the famed trio of "Tinker to Evers to Chance," each of whom ended up in Cooperstown.
