Barbara Ann Allen Rainey (August 20, 1948 - July 13, 1982) was the first female pilot in the U. S. armed forces. Rainey received her wings of gold as the first female to be designated a naval aviator in February 1974 and became the first Navy woman to qualify as a jet pilot. She attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy. She was killed in an aircraft crash in 1982 while performing her duties as a flight instructor.
In March 2005, Allen was informed that she had breast cancer. Unable to be treated in Kansas, Allen sought treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. After, twelve rounds of chemotherapy, thirty-three radiation treatments, and surgery, doctors said that they could not detect any cancer.
Personal life
Allen is a native of Overland Park, Kansas. She married to Kevin Moriarty in November 2011.
Lyrics are words that make up a song usually consisting of verses and choruses. The writer of lyrics is a lyricist. The words to an extended musical composition such as an opera are, however, usually known as a "libretto" and their writer, as a "librettist". The meaning of lyrics can either be explicit or implicit. Some lyrics are abstract, almost unintelligible, and, in such cases, their explication emphasizes form, articulation, meter, and symmetry of expression.
Etymology
"Lyric" derives via Latinlyricus from the Greekλυρικός (lyrikós), the adjectival form of lyre. It first appeared in English in the mid-16th century in reference, to the Earl of Surrey's translations of Petrarch and to his own sonnets.Greeklyric poetry had been defined by the manner in which it was sung accompanied by the lyre or cithara, as opposed to the chanted formal epics or the more passionate elegies accompanied by the flute. The personal nature of many of the verses of the Nine Lyric Poets led to the present sense of "lyric poetry" but the original Greek sense—words set to music—eventually led to its use as "lyrics", first attested in Stainer and Barrett's 1876 Dictionary of Musical Terms. Stainer and Barrett used the word as a singular substantive: "Lyric, poetry or blank verse intended to be set to music and sung". By the 1930s, the present use of the plurale tantum "lyrics" had begun; it has been standard since the 1950s. The singular form "lyric" still appears; its present use, however, is to refer to a specific phrase within a song's lyrics.
Music and Lyrics is a 2007Americanromantic comedy film written and directed by Marc Lawrence. It focuses on the relationship that evolves between a former pop music idol (of the fictional band PoP!, which is inspired by Wham! and Duran Duran) and an aspiring writer as they struggle to compose a song for a reigning pop diva.
Plot
Alex Fletcher (Hugh Grant) is a washed-up former pop star who is attempting to revive his dwindling career by hitching his name to the rising star of Cora Corman (Haley Bennett), a young megastar who has asked him to write a song titled "Way Back Into Love." During an unsuccessful attempt to come up with words for the song, he discovers that the woman who is temporarily watering his plants, Sophie Fisher (Drew Barrymore), has a gift for writing lyrics. Sophie, a former creative writing student reeling from a disastrous romance with her former English professor Sloan Cates (Campbell Scott), initially refuses. Alex cajoles her into helping him by using a few quickly-chosen phrases she has given him as the basis for a song. Over the next few days, they grow closer while writing the words and music together, much to the delight of Sophie's older sister Rhonda (Kristen Johnston), a huge fan of Alex.

Barbara Allen (Traditional Folk Song)
Here is the traditional folk song "Barbara Allen." I first read "Barbara Allen" as a poem in my high school literature book. I believe the book stated it was set to music and is a song, and I subsequently listened to the song as sung by Joan Baez, and here we are today.

'Twas in the merry month of May When green buds all were swellin' Sweet William on his death bed lay For the love of Barbara Allen He sent his servant to the town To the place where she was dwellin' Saying, "You must come to my master dear, If your name be Barb'ry Allen" So slowly, slowly she got up, And slowly she drew nigh to him, And the only words to him did say "Young man, I think you're dying" He turned his face unto the wall And death was in him welling Goodbye, goodbye to my friends all Be kind to Barb'ry Allen When he was dead and laid in grave She heard the death bells knellin' And every stroke to her did say "Hard-hearted Barb'ry Allen" "Oh mother, oh mother, go dig my grave Make it both long and narrow Sweet William died of love for me And I will die of sorrow" "Oh father, oh father, go dig my grave Make it both long and narrow Sweet William died on yesterday And I will die tomorrow" Barb'ry Allen was buried in the old church-yard Sweet William was buried beside her Out of Sweet William's heart there grew a rose Out of Barb'ry Allen's, a briar They grew and gew in the old church-yard 'Til they could grow no higher At the end they formed a true lovers' knot And the rose grew 'round the briar
