Ballet Society is a non-profit educational institution founded in 1946 by Lincoln Kirstein and George Balanchine. At its founding, Balanchine was the Artistic Director and Kirstein served as the Secretary. The president of Ballet Society is Nancy Lassalle, an original Board member of both the School of American Ballet and the New York City Ballet, currently Emerita.
History
The first performance took place on November 20, 1946 at the Central High School of Needle Trades in New York City. In its first season, it opened with The Four Temperaments and the Spellbound Child.
Ballet Society's purpose was to develop an historical and pedagogical foundation for the art of ballet and dance. In its first two decades it received $200,000 in grants to research and expand the reach of ballet in the United States. With these funds Ballet Society published programs and held seminars and workshops with dance scholars, artists and dance teachers. It also commissioned and presented choreography by George Balanchine, Todd Bolender, Merce Cunningham, Lew Christensen, Francisco Moncion, and William Dollar.
A society is a group of people involved in persistent social interaction, or a large social grouping sharing the same geographical or social territory, typically subject to the same political authority and dominant cultural expectations. Societies are characterized by patterns of relationships (social relations) between individuals who share a distinctive culture and institutions; a given society may be described as the sum total of such relationships among its constituent members. In the social sciences, a larger society often evinces stratification or dominance patterns in subgroups.
Insofar as it is collaborative, a society can enable its members to benefit in ways that would not otherwise be possible on an individual basis; both individual and social (common) benefits can thus be distinguished, or in many cases found to overlap.
A society can also consist of like-minded people governed by their own norms and values within a dominant, larger society. This is sometimes referred to as a subculture, a term used extensively within criminology.
Society was an 1865 comedy drama by Thomas William Robertson regarded as a milestone in Victorian drama because of its realism in sets, costume, acting and dialogue. Unusually for that time, Robertson both wrote and directed the play, and his innovative writing and stage direction inspired George Bernard Shaw and W. S. Gilbert.
Origins
The play originally ran at the Prince of Wales's Theatre, Liverpool, under the management of Mr A. Henderson, opening on 8 May 1865. It was recommended to Effie Wilton, the manager of the Prince of Wales's Theatre in London's West End, by H. J. Byron, where it ran from 11 November 1865 to 4 May 1866 Robertson found fame with his new comedy, which included a scene that fictionalized the Fun gang, who frequented the Arundel Club, the Savage Club, and especially Evans's café, where they had a table in competition with the Punch 'Round table'. The play marked the London debut of Squire Bancroft, who went on to marry Effie Wilton in 1867 and become her co-manager.

Cambridge Vlog | Cambridge University Ballet Club President
I'm now President of the Cambridge University Ballet Club! The CUBC (not the Boat club, unfortunate acronym crossover there...) is the Ballet Society within Cambridge Uni, however, we are a little different, as classes are open to both students and non-students. For anyone who is interested in Ballet who is coming to the University or looking to get involved, we are unique in offering a range of classes for adults (lots of beginners too!) and growing as a community of people of a variety of ages from across the globe - united by our love of dance. I've danced my whole life, so of course I went a little crazy with the annual show, dancing as Titania in our production of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' - but this video is not about that (althought there is one on my channel!). Hi guys, welcome to my channel, I'm Chloe, nice to meet you :) I have just started my Youtube channel in anticipation of embarking on a new journey of my own - going to uni. Specifically, I'm starting Cambridge University to study English lit. in October, and will be using this community as an informative and creative space to explore university life, study, and my interests in fashion. We broke down the walls one brick at a time. But infatuation cuts quick and you sharpen the knife. A smile can only get you so far, blue eyed suicide. I was willing to throw it all away but you couldn't decide. A smile can only get you so far, blue eyed suicide. These walls will be higher next time you try to break them and break in. Your existence it burns my eyes. Everytime I try and close them. I thought that things were different this time around. I thought I found someone who meant what they said. Beyond four letters, beyond four letters. I guess I thought that things were different this time around I thought I found someone who meant what they said. Beyond four letters, beyond four letters.
