BMW 1 Series 2018 hatchback in-depth review | Mat Watson Reviews
Can the BMW 1 Series compete against other luxury hatchbacks like the Audi A3, Mercedes A Class, and Volvo V40? It already sets itself apart from the crowd by featuring rear-wheel-drive. However, is this worth the extra cost that comes with the coveted BMW badge, or are cheaper rivals such as the Ford Focus better value? It is however, the cheapest BMW you can buy, so what does Mat Watson think? Have BMW compromised or maintained their high standards? Mat lets you know what he thinks in our 4k review!

The all-new BMW 1 Series. Official Launch Film.
A real eye-catcher: the all-new BMW 1 Series has arrived to attract all the admiring glances. The progressive design language shows a fresh interpretation of iconic BMW features. The signature BMW kidney grille is now larger, with far greater presence. For the first time in this model range, the two kidneys now merge in the middle. The same holds true for the interior with a modern atmosphere that inspires through premium quality materials like accents in Aluminium satinated or the newly designed instrument panel. The interior of the all-new BMW 1 Series combines more actual space and an enhanced impression of roominess, rigorously driver-focused controls and innovative details, such as backlit trim strips available in a BMW for the first time. Efficient engines, the front-wheel drive now ...

Have They Fixed It? (New BMW 1 Series 2025 Review Walkaround)
BMW has launched its heavy rework of the 1 Series small hatchback, now dubbed the F70 generation.
Based off the F40 launched in 2019, the new F70 is extensively remodelled from the windscreen forward, creating a sleeker profile, and includes a lot of finessing of exterior details.
The F70 interior has been completely revamped with a fresh minimalist design that robs liberally from the Munich carmaker’s electric lineup. The newcomer marks BMW’s debut deletion of the ‘i’ nomenclature from its petrol internal combustion models.
Arriving in late 2024, the F70 will initially be offered in two guises. Our video subject is the flagship M135 xDrive, offering 233kW/400Nm of power and 4.9sec 0-100km potential from its all-paw format.
An entry-level, front-drive 118 variant will also be availabl...

BMW 1 Series review (2011 to 2019) | What Car?
The BMW 1 Series is one of the best small family cars you can buy because it’s hugely desirable, good to drive and surprisingly cheap to run.
The only rear-wheel-drive hatch in the class scores with a strong combination of performance, economy and CO2 emissions. It handles well and rides comfortably, too.
Are there any downsides? Overly quick and light steering can make the 1 Series feel slightly nervous at speed. The pedals are offset to the right, so getting comfortable behind the wheel can be tricky.
What do you think of the BMW 1 Series? Let us know in the comments below!

BMW 1 Series: A calculated risk
It's all change for the 2020 BMW 1 Series, as rear-wheel drive makes way for front-wheel drive in a bid to free up more interior space. Rebecca Jackson tests the 118i M Sport with its three-cylinder turbo petrol engine to see if BMW's gamble has paid off.

Efficient engines, the front-wheel drive now premiering in the new BMW 1 Series and state-of-the-art chassis technologies guarantee driving experiences full of dynamics and agility. The all-new BMW 1 Series is powered by three-cylinder and four-cylinder engines from the latest generation of the BMW EfficientDynamics family. #THE1 is the first #BMW model of its class that comes optional with the innovative reversing assistant, the BMW Digital Key and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant first seen in the #BMW 3 Series Sedan

BMW M135i xDrive 5-door: Fuel consumption in l/100 km (combined): 7.1 - 6.8. CO2 emissions in g/km (combined): 162 - 155. The values of fuel consumptions, CO2 emissions and energy consumptions shown were determined according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version applicable at the time of type approval. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany and the range shown considers optional equipment and the different size of wheels and tires available on the selected model. The values of the vehicles are already based on the new WLTP regulation and are translated back into NEDC-equivalent values in order to ensure the comparison between the vehicles. [With respect to these vehicles, for vehicle related taxes or other duties based (at least inter alia) on CO2-emissions the CO2 values may differ to the values stated here.] The CO2 efficiency specifications are determined according to Directive 1999/94/EC and the European Regulation in its current version applicable. The values shown are based on the fuel consumption, CO2 values and energy consumptions according to the NEDC cycle for the classification. For further information about the official fuel consumption and the specific CO2 emission of new passenger cars can be taken out of the „handbook of fuel consumption, the CO2 emission and power consumption of new passenger cars“, which is available at all selling points and at https://www.dat.de/angebote/verlagsprodukte/leitfaden-kraftstoffverbrauch.html.

An entry-level, front-drive 118 variant will also be available with a boosted three-cylinder engine good for 115kW and 230Nm.
This heavily restyled take is set to take the 1 Series lineup to 2030 and beyond.
