BAE Systems: Taranis unmanned combat aircraft maiden flight
Named after the Celtic god of Thunder, Taranis is the most advanced military aircraft ever designed and flown by the United Kingdom.
The technology demonstrator is the result of one-and-a-half million hours of work by leading scientists, aerodynamicists and systems engineers from 250 UK companies. However, although Taranis was designed to demonstrate unmanned air systems, during flight it was always under the control of a human operator.
The engineering know-how gathered during its testing programme which began in 2010 continues to influence the way BAE Systems is developing new technologies to serve the Royal Air Force for generations to come.

Developed and produced jointly by BAE Systems and France-based Nexter, BONUS is a 155-millimeter munition designed to destroy armored targets. The BONUS round contains two sensor-fuzed warheads with advanced target-seeking sensors. Once deployed they independently seek, track and strike targets within an area of 32,000 square meters.

The Dreadnought class submarine will be the Royal Navy’s biggest, most powerful and most technically advanced submarines when they begin to enter service from the early 2030s and will play a pivotal role in the nation’s defence and security for decades to come. Work on the first two boats in the class is well underway at the Company’s shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, with £2.5 billion worth of contracts have already been placed with suppliers across the UK.
