Ayman Mohammed Rabie al-Zawahiri (Arabic:أيمن محمد ربيع الظواهريʾAyman Muḥammad Rabīʿ aẓ-Ẓawāhirī, born June 19, 1951) is the current leader of al-Qaeda and a current or former member and senior official of Islamist organizations which have orchestrated and carried out attacks in North America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. In 2012, he called on Muslims to kidnap Western tourists in Muslim countries.
Ayman Mohammed Rabie al-Zawahiri is pronounced [ˈʔæjmæn mʊˈħæmːæd rɑˈbiːʕ azˤːɑˈwæːhɪriː] or [aðˤːɑˈwæːhɪriː] in Arabic (the latter is in the Classical). Zawahiri is usually spelled Zawahri (from the pronunciation in his native Egyptian Arabic), but is sometimes spelled "Dhawahri" if transliterated directly from Modern Standard Arabic, also called Literary Arabic, in certain academic circles. Using the Intelligence Community Standard for the Transliteration of Arabic Names, it is spelled Zawahri.

The Assassination of Ayman al-Zawahiri: CIA Drone Kills al-Qaeda Leader at Safe House in Kabul
President Biden claimed Monday a CIA drone strike killed al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in Kabul, Afghanistan. Trained as a surgeon in Egypt, where he was born into a prominent family, al-Zawahiri was a key figure in the jihadist movement since the 1980s. The U.S. has long accused al-Zawahiri of being a key 9/11 plotter along with Osama bin Laden, who was killed in a U.S. raid in Pakistan in 2011. The Taliban has since criticized the attack, saying the drone strike was a "violation of international principles." For more, we're joined by Afghan journalist Bilal Sarwary and national security expert Karen Greenberg, who say the Taliban's apparent sheltering of al-Zawahiri in a prominent Kabul neighborhood was shocking. "This is a strike inside the heart of Kabul in an area that is very, very well known to the CIA and other Western intelligence agencies," says Sarwary, whose sources report at least 12 Arab nationals were killed in the strike despite Biden announcing there were no civilian casualties.

Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed over the weekend in a drone strike during a U.S. counterterrorism operation, President Biden announced Monday night. In 2004, Ed Bradley reported on al-Zawahiri, said to be the mastermind behind Osama bin Laden.

"This is a strike inside the heart of Kabul in an area that is very, very well known to the CIA and other Western intelligence agencies," says Sarwary, whose sources report at least 12 Arab nationals were killed in the strike despite Biden announcing there were no civilian casualties.

New details about the secret CIA weapon that killed al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri were released. He was Osama Bin Laden's right-hand man and was a key figure in plotting the 9/11 attack. Zawahiri was killed by Ginsu missiles, named after popular slice-and-dice Japanese knives. They were fired with pinpoint accuracy from a drone flying at 50,000 feet. The missiles do not explode. Instead, they are equipped with six super-sharp rotating blades that cut through concrete.
The US has killed Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, one of the world's most-wanted terrorists and a key architect of the September 11 attacks, in a drone strike in Afghanistan.
But who was al-Zawahiri, and how did he come to be the world's most wanted terrorist?

The United States killed al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in a drone strike, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.
Zawahiri, who just turned 71 years old, had remained a visible international symbol of the group, 11 years after the US killed Osama bin Laden. At one point, he acted as bin Laden's personal physician.

When Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) commandeered Damascus in December, no one seemed very upset ... He broke with Ayman al-Zawahiri — the leader of Al-Qaeda — in 2016, and HTS received its own terror designation from the US in 2018.
What did America get from this DohaDeal? In 2020, we won a promise by the Taliban not to let their country be a base for Al-Qaeda ... We know because in 2022, we found the leader of Al-Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiri, in Kabul.
