Astrud Gilberto (born March 29, 1940) is a Brazilian samba and bossa nova singer. She is best known for her performance of the song "The Girl from Ipanema".
Astrud Gilberto was born Astrud Evangelina Weinert, the daughter of a Brazilian mother and a German father, in the state of Bahia, Brazil. She was raised in Rio de Janeiro. She married João Gilberto in 1959 and emigrated to the United States in 1963, continuing to reside in the US from that time. Astrud and João divorced in the mid-1960s and she began a relationship with her musical partner, American jazz saxophone player Stan Getz.
She sang on two tracks on the influential 1963 album Getz/Gilberto featuring João Gilberto, Stan Getz, and Antonio Carlos Jobim, despite having never sung professionally before this recording. The 1964 single version of "The Girl from Ipanema", taken from the 1963 album, omitted the Portuguese lyrics sung by Joao Gilberto, and established Astrud Gilberto as a Bossa Nova singer. It sold over one million copies and was awarded a gold disc. In 1964, Gilberto appeared in the films Get Yourself a College Girl and The Hanged Man. Her first solo album was The Astrud Gilberto Album (1965). Upon moving to the United States, she went on tour with Getz. Beginning as a singer of bossa nova and American jazz standards, Gilberto started to record her own compositions in the 1970s. She has recorded songs in Portuguese, English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, and Japanese.
Night, Again is an anthology of contemporary Vietnamese fiction, edited by Linh Dinh.
Published in 1996 by Seven Stories Press, then reissued in 2006 with two new stories, Night, Again features key authors emerging from the liberalization of Đổi Mới in the 1980s, as well as major writers living overseas.
The stories include:
III
The upheavals in the Communist world in the mid 1980s had profound repercussions in Vietnam. After the 1986 Party congress, the term Đổi Mới—or "Renovation", the Vietnamese version of glasnost, entered the vernacular. In literature, the new era was announced by Secretary General Nguyễn Văn Linh at a gathering of writers in October 1987. Admitting that the Party had been "less than democratic [in the past], and often dogmatic and brutal" in its treatment of writers. Linh promised to "unbind" them from that point on: "Speak the truth... No matter what happens, Comrades, don't curb your pen."
The Party was only conceding to what was already happening. The Đổi Mới literature can be traced to the appearances of novels by Ma Văn Kháng, Lê Lựu and Dương Thu Hương in 1985, 1986, 1987, respectively, with essays by the prominent critic Hoàng Ngọc Hiến and the writer-critic Nguyễn Minh Châu serving as catalysts. All had impeccable political pedigrees: Kháng, Lựu, Hương and Châu were Party members who had served in the war (Châu retired as a colonel); Hiến is the director of the Nguyễn Du writing school, originally modeled after the Gorky school in Moscow to develop Socialist writers.
"Last Night Again" is a song written by Steel Magnolia members Joshua Scott Jones and Meghan Linsey, along with Hillary Lindsey. The song was recorded by Steel Magnolia for their self-titled debut album. The song is the third single from the album, and was sent to country radio on December 6, 2010. It was officially released on iTunes the next day. It debuted on the Hot Country Songs charts at number 59 for the Billboard chart week ending January 1, 2011.
Bobby Peacock of Roughstock gave the song four stars out of five. He thought that the duo's real-life chemistry was far more evident in this song than it was on "Keep On Lovin' You". He also went on to add that he could see it as being a sequel to Lady Antebellum's "Lookin' for a Good Time".
The video, which was directed by Peter Zavadil, was released in December 2010. In the video, the members of Steel Magnolia are shown in a bowling alley, facing off against one another in efforts to impress the other.

Last night my future baby mama left me,
So bring me a bottle of rum and buy me a bag of sensi,
Me a mash up the dance, mash up the dance scene,
Me a mash up the dance, mash up the dance scene.
Back track two days see,
She went crazy,
Oh my days,
She calling me lazy,
Still no ring, no place to stay and no baby,
Maybe baby we can talk about these things another day
I try to say
She wouldn't listen to me,
Instead she turned me away.
Fast forward to today,
Going out with my mates,
Penetrate the school faces at the gates,
At the place where I play
we're to much just to rave,
Gotta forget the other day
Gimme little drink and I'm a mash up the place.
(Chorus)
Single life,
Saturday Night,
Getting high.
Last night my future baby mama left me,
So bring me a bottle of rum and buy me a bag of sensi,
Me a mash up the dance, mash up the dance scene,
Me a mash up the dance, mash up the dance scene.
scap rap sing along,
no back chatting
A long thing
Robin Hood bathing
I come to save the dance,
I come to save the dance with my drunken dancing
Wheel up come again, come a roots a shocking,
Wheel up come again, ain't no stopping me shocking
Now I'm talking lazy,
Vision hazy,
Whoopse daisy,
Watch your feet darling,
What's ya name
What ya drinking?
Barman...alazazy
(Chorus)
Single life,
Saturday Night,
Getting high.
Last night my future baby mama left me,
So bring me a bottle of rum and buy me a bag of sensi,
Me a mash up the dance, mash up the dance scene,
Me a mash up the dance, mash up the dance scene.
