Richard Vaughan, Conor Riley, brothers Iain (drums) and Stuart Sclater formed the band Silver Sunshine in 2001 in San Diego. The band was renamed Astra after Iain Sclater decided to leave in 2006. The band was soon joined by David Hurley and Brian Ellis.
With this line-up, the band released their first album The Weirding in May 2009 and their follow up "The Black Chord" in March 2012 both on Rise Above Records in the UK and on Metal Blade Records in the USA.
Drummer David Hurley left Astra in 2013 and was immediately replaced by Radio Moscow, JOY & Psicomagia drummer Paul Marrone.
+/-, or Plus/Minus, is an Americanindietronic band formed in 2001. The band makes use of both electronic and traditional instruments, and has sought to use electronics to recreate traditional indie rock song forms and instrumental structures. The group has released two albums on each of the American indie labels Teenbeat Records and Absolutely Kosher, and their track "All I do" was prominently featured in the soundtrack for the major film Wicker Park. The group has developed a devoted following in Japan and Taiwan, and has toured there frequently. Although many artists append bonus tracks onto the end of Japanese album releases to discourage purchasers from buying cheaper US import versions, the overseas versions of +/- albums are usually quite different from the US versions - tracklists can be rearranged, artwork with noticeable changes is used, and tracks from the US version can be replaced as well as augmented by bonus tracks.
A band society is the simplest form of human society. A band generally consists of a small kin group, no larger than an extended family or clan; one definition sees a band as consisting of no more than 100 individuals.
Characteristics
Bands have a loose organization. Their power structure is often egalitarian and has informal leadership; the older members of the band generally are looked to for guidance and advice, and decisions are often made on a consensus basis, but there are no written laws and none of the specialised coercive roles (e.g., police) typically seen in more complex societies. Bands' customs are almost always transmitted orally. Formal social institutions are few or non-existent. Religion is generally based on family tradition, individual experience, or counsel from a shaman. All known band societies hunt and gather to obtain their subsistence.
Definitions and distinctions
In his 1972 study, The Notion of the Tribe, Morton Fried defined bands as small, mobile, and fluid social formations with weak leadership that do not generate surpluses, pay taxes nor support a standing army.
The Astra was made by Automobiles Astra, Liege, Belgium in 1930. It is considered a textbook example of car design piracy, as the 1,100cc S.C.A.P.-engined car that made its debut at the 1930 Brussels Motor Show was an almost exact copy of the Tracta. It never went into production, and the projected 6- and 8- cylinder versions were, most likely, never built.
Astra (born November 10) is an American radio personality, currently on WBMP (FM), 92.3 AMP Radio in New York City. She joined the AMP Radio team on September 15, 2014 after spending eight years at 106.1 WBLI in Long Island. She can be heard live from 3-7pm on 92.3 FM in the greater New York City area.
Throughout her career she has conducted many notable interviews including One Direction, Jesse McCartney and Bruno Mars. She is known as a social media queen and constantly keeps the Long Island and New York City areas updated with up to the minute entertainment news on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. She also co-starred in the viral "S**t Long Islanders Say" video on YouTube with other members of the WBLI staff.
Early Life and Career
Astra was born in Manhattan, New York and has been in the limelight since age 2. She started as a print work model. Eventually this exposure led her to television where she had extra roles on MTV and HBO.
She attended Molloy College where she graduated with a Bachelors in Communication with a minor in Spanish.
Following the death of Allen Paulson on July 19, 2000, Astra raced for the Allen E. Paulson Living Trust. In mid-2001, trainer Simon Bray retired and her race conditioning was then turned over to Laura de Seroux who went on to match the two Grade I and the single Grade II wins that Bray had had with Astra. In winning her second edition of the Beverly Hills Handicap in 2002 for de Seroux, Astra set a new stakes record of 1:58.56 - for a mile and a quarter on turf.

Astra was boarded at Ashford Stud near Versailles, Kentucky. She produced three foals, all of which raced but with only limited success, before her untimely death on June 12, 2007 at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute near Lexington as a result of complications from colic.
