Are You “AAPI” or “Asian American”? It's Complicated. | A People's History of Asian America
How many A’s in AAPI? Dolly & Adrian hear from South Asian, Southeast Asian, and Pacific Islander voices to explore the pros and cons of disaggregating Asian American as a statistical category.
A People’s History of Asian America is a series of thoughtful visual essays and explainers, hosted by Emmy award-winning journalist, Dolly Li, and Asian studies scholar and professor, Adrian De Leon. Each episode offers informed and empowering perspectives, helping to break down common microaggressions and racist stereotypes through the tools of ethnic studies. ART148 Project 5: Montage
This is a video art piece called Asian (Converging Identities -- APIDA in Art). I montage certain dialogue clips to create a glitch effect, showcasing how individuals with different backgrounds can have similar struggles because they share a common identity of being "Asian" or Asian Pacific Islander and Desi American (APIDA).
Listen closely to each APIDA Artist's interviews as they share both the wonderful things about being in the APIDA community, as well as their struggles with their identities.
Pay attention to the glitches when words such as "bicultural" and "my family" are mentioned.
These interview clips were taken from @d.j.posillico 's film piece for the APIDA in Art Performance and Interactive Art Exhibition, Spring 2024, as a Senior Project in Thea...

These interview clips were taken from @d.j.posillico 's film piece for the APIDA in Art Performance and Interactive Art Exhibition, Spring 2024, as a Senior Project in Theatre and Media Studies by Lucy Kirkpatrick (Pomona College Class of 2024).
Special thanks:
Thank you @d.j.posillico for letting me use your video clips for me to edit this montage video art piece!
Thank you Lucy for letting me be a part of your Senior Thesis Project, and for reigniting a passion for creating art and showcasing my film 恋しい (Koishii) for the first time to the public! It meant a lot to explore my identity as an Asian and APIDA during my time exchanging at Pomona College for a year, and I'm so grateful for this experience. This interactive art exhibition and performance project/event turned out amazing! Bravo!

Norton Lecture Three: On the Death of Asian Americans | December 5, 2023
Asian Americans exist at the juncture of exclusion and inclusion. Asian American culture and politics is more unified in the face of exclusion and less unified in the face of inclusion.
