Arctic Sea Ice Hits 2023 Maximum
On March 6, 2023, the Arctic sea ice pack appeared to reach its maximum extent for this winter, at 14.62 million square kilometers, or 5.64 million square miles, according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center.
Fieldwork and satellites like NASA’s ICESat-2 satellite are monitoring the changing ice pack, and helping to predict how the ice will change in the future.

Disappearing Arctic sea ice
This visualization begins by showing the dynamic beauty of the Arctic sea ice as it responds to winds and ocean currents. Research into the behavior of the Arctic sea ice for the last 30 years has led to a deeper understanding of how this ice survives from year to year. In the animation that follows, age of the sea ice is visible, showing the younger ice in darker shades of blue and the oldest ice in brighter white. This visual representation of the ice age clearly shows how the quantity of older and thicker ice has changed between 1984 and 2016.

DESCRIPTION
The world’s coldest continent is also one of the most mysterious places on Earth. It’s as unique as it as secretive, and unlike most of the world, you can’t just hop on a flight and tick it off the bucket list. Unless you’re an elite scientist or an emperor penguin, in an effort to protect the area’s biodiversity, regular folk are forbidden to explore the antarctic. Even if you could, good luck overcoming the frostbite-inducing temperatures of nearly -130 degrees Fahrenheit (-90 C). But where did these heavy restrictions come from? It all started when American Navy officer Admiral Byrd put forth plans for a...

Annual Arctic Sea Ice Minimum Area 1979-2022, With Graph
Satellites have provided a reliable tool for continuously monitoring changes in the Arctic ice since 1979. Every summer, the Arctic ice cap melts to what scientists call its "minimum" before colder weather begins to make ice cover increase.
This visualization shows the expanse of the annual minimum Arctic sea ice for each year from 1979 through 2022, with a graph overlay.
In 2022, Arctic minimum sea ice coverage tied for 10th-lowest on record, extending a long-term downward trend.

Was This Really a 1 in 700,000,000,000 Year Event?! - Antarctic sea ice melting fast
For decades, Antarctic sea ice trends seemed to defy climate change, until…they didn’t. In just two years, Antarctica lost as much sea ice as the Arctic lost in three decades. Statistics say that the record low sea ice in 2023 was a 1 in 700 BILLION year event, suggesting that the models in this case may be broken, or that this anomaly was caused by climate change. And a new study asked the question: does this represent a STATE CHANGE? And what would that mean for one of our most iconic species, the emperor penguin? And what does reduced sea ice mean for Thwaites, the Doomsday Glacier? With summer sea ice hitting the third-lowest extent in recorded history, it's time to check-in. Watch this episode to find out.

UPDATE: Robson has now removed the video, as I suggested, and re-uploaded a corrected version. He does so very begrudgingly, calling it simply a 'revised edition,' with no mention of the error, and even complains about people who pointed out the mistake. He writes:
"This revised version corrects one trivial graphic animation production error that an army of trolls attempted to turn into a cause célèbre."
People often tell me that the scientific method is flawed, pointing to peer-review and retracted papers as weaknesses. They turn instead to YouTube amateurs like Rosbon. But peer review is fact-checking. Papers are retracted because science endeavours to correct mistakes. Flawed at it is, Robson represents the opposite -- the junk science mode, where nothing is fact-checked and mistakes only get corrected if an "army of trolls" press for corrections.
The corrected... sorry, 'revised' version, can be found here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUPASUoozfE
(fact-checking) with its emphasis on peer-review fact-checking Robson's attempt to trivialise a very misleading claim, and represent those who pointed out the mistake as "trolls" The 'trivial' mistake was a normal uptick in seasonal ice extent over a few weeks represented as a rise over 20 years. Robson's correction of that error is a step forward, but he is still cherry-picking an individual date and passing it off as a 'trend.'

Since 1979, satellites have provided a consistent continuous record of sea ice. Through 2015, the average monthly September extent of Arctic sea ice has declined by 13.4 percent per decade relative to the average from 1981 to 2010. Declines are occurring in every geographic area, in every month, and every season. Natural variability and rising temperatures linked to global warming appear to have played a role in this decline. The Arctic may be ice-free in summer before the end of this century.

Soon the Arctic will be ice-free in summer. While many are concerned about the consequences for the global climate, countries like Russia and the US, as well as China and Canada see an ice-free Arctic as an opportunity, offering everything from new trade routes to mineral resources and tourism.
Part 2: https://youtu.be/Hz6xkR4mNlo
In two episodes, this documentary reports on a region of the world that is changing dramatically because of climate change, affecting the lives of the people who make their home in the Arctic. The film team experiences first-hand what it means to live at the mercy of the forces of nature in this inhospitable region, which makes for an adventurous and frightening journey.
In the first part of the documentary, they fly low over the fascinating icy landscape of Greenland, filming the fjords and mighty glaciers of the loneliest places in the world. The current Arctic thaw, however, is felt far beyond this lovely, isolated place. Progressing faster here than in the rest of the world, climate change is moving the Arctic into the focus of global politics. Littoral states and world powers are fighting for influence here. At the heart of their interest: access to mineral resources and new transport routes. Because, as the ice melts, new, shorter shipping routes are opening up. Is a new conflict looming at the North Pole?
And how do the people in the far north experience the change in their environment? The film team travels through the northern reaches of the US, Canada, Greenland, Norway and Russia. The journalists experience the wonder of nature in these regions and meet people who have adapted over centuries to life in these cold, inhospitable realms. Now, they face a new struggle, as global power players swoop in.
In
Alaska, the camera team meets fishermen who have been driven from American fishing grounds near the Bering Strait by Russian fighter planes and warships. The fishermen are demanding that their government provide a greater military presence in the region to protect their interests.
The region has been the scene of a long-term dispute over water ownership. For the US, the Northwest Passage counts as international waters, while Canada considers it national territory. The conflict over the Arctic could soon escalate. Because scientists are certain: In a few decades, the Arctic will be ice-free in summer.

It all started when American Navy officer Admiral Byrd put forth plans for a special treaty, one which declared that Antarctica should remain a completely demilitarised zone and devoid of ownership by any one nation...

What's really behind the ice wall in Antarctica and why no one is allowed to cross it?
Go here https://bit.ly/3TOQ4Kx to grab your FREE eBook on using ancient knowledge to manifest your greatest desires.
In this documentary, we unveil the mysteries and secrets that have long been concealed from the public eye about what’s hidden behind Antarctica's massive ice wall. From ancient legends to scientific theories, we'll uncover the truth about what lies beyond the ice wall in Antarctica.
In this episode of Secret Origins, we are exploring tales of a colossal ice wall, military expeditions, and encounters with advanced technologies. Dive into Admiral Byrd's 1954 interview, where he hinted at unexplored resources and mysterious territories beyond Antarctica's icy borders. Did his adventures lend credibility to the Flat Earth theory or reveal a hidden civilization thriving beneath the ice?
Explore Operation High Jump, the 1946 military expedition to Antarctica, shrouded in mystery and conspiracy. From Nazi UFOs to saucer-like aircraft using ray-like weapons, what really happened during this ambitious mission? Did the US military face off against advanced technology, possibly of Nazi origin?
Delve into the Nazi regime's fascination with Antarctica, their quest for an Aryan homeland, and the mysterious Vril Society. Did the Nazis establish an underground city, complete with advanced technology? Explore the tales of Admiral Byrd's encounters and the potential alliance with extraterrestrials.
Unearth the ILAT LITUM plates, discovered during the German Antarctic Expedition. These Sumerian-inscribed artifacts detail the Anunnaki's arrival on Earth from Aldebaran, genetic evolution, and prophecies of their return. Were the Nazis cooperating with ancient alien civilizations, and did they possess blueprints for a spacecraft named the Vril-Odin?
As science begins to unravel some of Antarctica's mysteries, questions linger. What really transpired during the covert military operations in Antarctica? Can we trust the narratives of ancient alien civilizations, or are we on the brink of deciphering the truths hidden in Antarctica's icy embrace?
