SOUTH KOREA: ANTI JAPAN DEMONSTRATIONS CONTINUE
(17 Feb 1996) Natural Sound
About 20 demonstrators have staged an anti-Japan rally for the seventh day running in the South Korean capital Seoul in a dispute over territory.
Members of the April 19 Uprising Victims Association continued to protest outside the Japanese Embassy on Friday, angry over Japan's claim to the Tok-do Islet.
Some of the members of the April 19 Uprising Victims Association were in wheelchairs and had the Korean flag draped over their body as they shouted slogans.
They demanded that Japan retract its claim to the islet and make a formal apology.
Tok-do is midway between South Korea and Japan in the East Sea and is surrounded by waters rich in marine life and minerals.

Anti-Japanese sentiment moving Korean tourists elsewhere for Chuseok holiday
추석여행 2년간 1순위 지켰던 오사카의 추락..6위로 하락, 일본 제품 불매운동의 여파
The tensions between Korea and Japan have caused fewer Koreans to travel to the island nation considered a favorite holiday destination during Korean thanksgiving.
Local e-commerce firm TMON says over the past two years Osaka was the most popular overseas destination for South Koreans during Chuseok, but the city is now number six.
More than 30 percent of overseas plane tickets booked last year were to Japan, but this year that figure has fallen to below 11 percent.
Koreans are now choosing to go elsewhere, such as Southeast Asia or opting to travel locally.

The group burned a Japanese flag in protest against what they claim is Japanese imperialism.
The demonstrators condemned Japan's colonial rule over Korea from 1910 to 1945 and atrocities such as military sexual slavery forced on Korean women during World War II.

STORYLINE:
Dozens of Taiwanese gathered outside Japan's de-facto embassy in Taipei on Thursday to protest against Japanese politicians visiting a shrine that honours the country's war dead.
Several senior Japanese politicians marked Thursday's anniversary of the end of World War two by visiting the Yasukuni shrine - but it remains a sore spot for countries occupied by Japan during the war, who say it pays tribute to war criminals.
Protesters shouted "Opposing the visit to the shrine" in Mandarin, tore up Japan's wartime flag and threw the pieces in the air.
"Paying respect to the military wartime means the Abe government condones wartime aggression. People from all over Asia Pacific cannot accept this," said protester Gorge Hua.
The current ruling party of Taiwan, the Nationalist Party, fought Japan during the World War II when it occupied a large part of China's territory.
During that time, Taiwan itself was under Japanese rule.
Many Taiwanese men were forced to fight for Japan and women were forced to serve as prostitutes or "comfort women" for the Japanese Army.
Taiwan also has an ongoing territorial dispute with Japan over an island chain - called the Diaoyu islands in China and Taiwan and the Senkakus in Japan.

Obviously not an extensive list of people and obviously watch the full videos (titles provided) for full context.
I don't particularly like producing videos in relation to China & geopolitics, but after the rise in Asian hate crimes during the pandemic and noticing that this is not a new phenomenon, it would be remiss not to remind people that geopolitics plays an enormous impact on the safety and lives of ordinary citizens just trying to earn a living, raise families and live in peace.
As much as netizens say that they don't conflate governments with their people, there's been enough examples to prove otherwise. I hope people realise the dangers of the "us vs. them" narrative perpetuated by leaders & the media as it leads to more xenophobia and hate.
It's become increasingly clear to me that we need a more nuanced and balanced narrative (subjective, I know) to promote a safer and more harmonious society. Unfortunately, in a world where we are increasingly living in our own echo chambers, this will be a major challenge.
