Highlights from the final of the women's modern pentathlon as Laura Asadauskaite (Lithuania) wins gold, with Samantha Murray (Great Britain) winning silver and Yane Marques (Brazil) claiming bronze at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The modern pentathlon was introduced by Baron de Coubertin at the Stockholm Games in 1912, comprising pistol shooting, fencing, swimming, horse riding and running. Watch Full Video of Annika Schleu's Competing in Modern Pentathlon at the Tokyo Olympics
Hey everyone, due to copyright issues I had to post this video in 10 different parts in shorts. But now I have managed to edit the video and it seems to be working. I hope you'll like the full video and subscribe to my channel.
Background of the story: The 31-year-old appeared to be in tears before her round began, perhaps having seen her mount misbehave for Gulnaz Gubaydullina in its previous run.
And despite finally getting going after initially refusing to start, the horse cleared just four fences before crashing into the fifth and then repeatedly refusing to jump, eliminating Schleu with zero points as it had done Gubaydullina.
"It's all falling apart - this is really, really sad to watch. She is having an absolute real life nightmare," said BBC Sport commentator and former Olympic...

She is having an absolute real life nightmare," said BBC Sport commentator and former Olympic silver medallist Heather Fell.
"This is hard to commentate on. Annika Schleu has worked so hard - she finished fourth at the last Olympic Games, it really did seem like this was her moment."
Instead, Schleu slipped from first place with a 24-point cushion to 31st because of her nil score, departing the arena in tears and inconsolable.

Origin and History of the Ancient Olympic Games
The Olympic Games as we know them today began in April of 1896 in Athens, where the city welcomed 13 nations to compete, but this video is going way back to the year 776 BCE and it's going to explore the origin and history of the Ancient Olympic Games. In the year 776 BCE, the first Olympic Games were held at the sacred site of Olympia in the western Peloponnese, in honour of the king of the gods, Zeus. The games were held every four years (much like they are now), until 393 CE when they were ended by Emperor Theodosios I who decreed that all cult practices (including the Olympic Games), be stopped.
The very first Olympics in 776 BCE was held on the first full moon after the summer solstice, so in the middle of July sometime, and at the beginning, there was only one event, the stadion fo...

Ancient Olympics: Let The Games Begin
Come back with us to Ancient Greece, Two Thousand, Five Hundred Years ago to the original Olympic Games. The ancient Games, like our modern Olympics, included champions and cheaters, glory and scandals, bitter rivalries and contests of strength, speed and savage combat. Set in 448 BC when the pounding of horse's hooves and the brutal hand-to-hand combat could be heard and seen by the crowds that filled the Olympic stadium. This one-hour special event follows the glory and corruption of the arc of a single, five-day Olympiad. The competitions include chariot racing, running, jumping, discus, javelin and two man-to-man combat finals-boxing and pankration, a form of extreme fighting in which death was not uncommon. With the help of sports historians and great athletes such as George Chuvalo a...

The Olympic Games began in ancient Greece in July 776 BC at Olympia however, it is thought the games began many years before..
As a festival with athletic events staged to honor the god, Zeus, the Olympics also united individual Greek city-states and colonies in competition.

Thousands of years in the making, the Olympics began as part of a religious festival honoring the Greek god Zeus in the rural Greek town of Olympia. But how did it become the greatest show of sporting excellence on earth? Armand D’Angour explains the evolution of the Olympics.

The very first Olympics in 776 BCE was held on the first full moon after the summer solstice, so in the middle of July sometime, and at the beginning, there was only one event, the stadion foot race. The very first victor was Koroibos of Elis, and every victor was recorded from Koroibos onwards, and each Olympiad (which is the four year period associated with each Olympic game), was named after the victor.
The games were started with a procession that began at the town of Ellis and concluded at Olympia. The procession was led by the judges or Hellanodikai, and when the athletes and officials were all at the site, they swore an oath to follow the rules and to compete with honour and respect. 100 oxen were sacrificed to Zeus at his altar, known as the hecatomb, and this was the most important religious ceremony which would be observed after the sporting events were over.

With the help of sports historians and great athletes such as George Chuvalo and Olympic medallists Donovan Bailey and Angela Schneider, viewers travel back to a very different life-in a very different world. Combining computer generated imagery and vivid re-enactments, Ancient Olympics brings the legendary Hellenistic spectacle to life.
History Documentary hosted by Fred Napoli, published by History Channel in 2004.
