The rise of the Himalayas affected more than just the immediate area. Turns out, we may have them to thank for everything from the rise of giant flightless birds in Madagascar; to the disappearance of plants from Antarctica; to the expansion of the great grasslands of North America, and more.

The Himalayas from 20,000 ft.
The aerial cinema experts at Teton Gravity Research release the first ultra HD footage of the Himalayas shot from above 20,000 ft. with the GSS C520 system, the most advanced gyro-stabilized camera system in the world. Filmed from a helicopter with a crew flying from Kathmandu at 4,600 ft. up to 24,000 ft. on supplemental oxygen, these are some of the most stable, crisp, clear aerial shots of these mountains ever released, which include Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, and Lhotse.

The Himalayan Mountain Ranges.
In this video, I discuss The Great Himalayas. It is a 2400 km mountain range that separates the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau. It has 400km in width in Kashmir and 150 km in Arunachal.
So If you do not know What is Shiwalik range, What are the outer Himalayas?, What are Lesser Himalayas?, What are the greater Himalayas? or What are trans-Himalayas? Watch this #shorts.
The outermost range of the Himalayas is called the Siwalik. They extend over a width of 10 – 15 km and have altitudes varying between 100m-900m.
North to Siwalik, there lies Lesser Himalayas. Its altitude varies from 3700 m and 4700 m and the average width is 50 km.
The core or central range of the Himalayas is called Greater Himalayas or Himadri. It has an average elevation of 6,100m and an average width of about 25 km. Some of the highest peaks on earth like Mt Everest, Mt Kanchenjunga, Mt Makalu, Dhaulagiri, Nanga Parbat, Annapurna, etc lie here.
The northernmost part of the Himalayas is called Trans Himalayas and consists of Karakoram, Ladakh, Zanskar, and Kailash mountain ranges.
Besides this, the Himalayas have been divided on the basis of regions from west to east. These are as
a) Kashmir or North-Western Himalayas
b) Himachal and Uttarakhand Himalayas
c) Darjeeling and Sikkim Himalayas
d) Arunachal Himalayas

The Himalayas, or Himalaya, literally, "abode of the snow", is a mountain range in Asia separating the plains of the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau.
The Himalayan range is home to the planet's highest peaks, including the highest, Mount Everest. The Himalayas include over a hundred mountains exceeding 7,200 metres (23,600 ft) in elevation. By contrast, the highest peak outside Asia -- Aconcagua, in the Andes -- is 6,961 metres (22,838 ft) tall. The Himalayas have profoundly shaped the cultures of South Asia. Many Himalayan peaks are sacred in both Buddhism and Hinduism.
Besides the Greater Himalayas of these high peaks there are parallel lower ranges. The first foothills, reaching about a thousand meters along the northern edge of the plains, are called the Sivalik Hills or Sub-Himalayan Range. Further north is a higher range reaching two to three thousand meters known as the Lower Himalayan or Mahabharat Range.
The Himalayas abut or cross six countries: Bhutan, India, Nepal, China,
Afghanistan and Pakistan, with the first three countries having sovereignty over most of the range.[3] The Himalayas are bordered on the northwest by the Karakoram and Hindu Kush ranges, on the north by the Tibetan Plateau, and on the south by the Indo-Gangetic Plain.
