The Anaheim Amigos/Los Angeles Stars were a charter member American Basketball Association (ABA) team based in Southern California. They were the Amigos during their first season in Anaheim and later moved to Los Angeles to become the Stars. The team existed from 1967 to 1970, when it moved to Salt Lake City to become the Utah Stars.
The Amigos were the first professional team to self-identify as being located in Anaheim; while the Angels played in Anaheim Stadium at the time, they would not use "Anaheim" in their name until the 1990s.

The ABA was a rival basketball league to the NBA from 1967 to 1976. While it's existence was short lived, plenty of crazy stuff went down. Here are 11 of my favorite wild stories about the league and things that happened to its players.

Travel back in time to learn about the #Tongva Native Americans, and how they had been living in the Southern California region for thousands of years. Discover how in the late 1700’s King Carlos of Spain sent his missionaries and armies to then #AltaCalifornia to steal the agricultural lands from the #NativeAmericans. The documentary covers how the #Spanish promptly forced the California Natives into labor camps under the guise of religious ‘Missions’. You’ll learn about how the #Missionsystem effectively helped to wipe out the cultures and traditions of the local natives and forced them into labor and #religious conversions.
Fast forward a bit and you will learn about how #Mexico gained its independence and its effect on the Southern California Region. Mexico gave the land that would one day become #Anaheim to former soldiers that had fought for them during their #mexicanrevolutionarywar. However, they didn’t own the land for long because the #UnitedStates seized the Southern California lands for their country during the Conquest of #California. Juan Pacífico Ontiveros, who owned the land that would one day become Anaheim, decided it would be a good idea to sell the land to winemakers from #Germany that had no experience in making wine.
The families moved half-way across the globe to establish a new community for themselves and had no experience in growing grapes, but they worked hard to learn and were able to become very successful. Another Anaheim farmer created a hybrid berry and gave it to his friend. His friend then sold those berries at his roadside stand. Later, he added on a ghost town, and it ended up becoming one of California’s first amusement parks in #knottsberryfarm
#mickeymouse and the #Disney company decided to move to Anaheim as well and the mouse caused a shift in the city’s economy from agricultural production to tourism. Millions of people moved into the city and the oranges groves were replaced with homes for all those people.
#Sports have played a large part in the history of Anaheim and this film will #educate you on how the city acquired it’s first team, the #losangelesangels . The #angels would build a stadium not too far from #disneyland in the 1960’s and they have been a mainstay even since. We’ll learn about when the #losangelesrams moved into the Big A, and them promptly moved out. Southern California isn’t known for its cold weather but it has become a epicenter for hockey fans. This #documentary covers how the #anaheimducks came to be and how they have helped grow the sport of #hockey in #SoCal.
A #basketball #arena was built across the street from Disneyland to house a new #ababasketball team call the #AnaheimAmigos, but #history felt it worked out better as an #exhibition center for #conventions like #starwars and other #scifi events. It’s hosted numerous events other than sports including an #elvispressley concert. However, the basketball team left, and live acts preferred to perform in more modern venues. We’ll learn how the Amigos arena transformed into one of the largest convention centers in the world!

After a quick break, everybody gets their fangs out because it's design critique time! This time our target is the NBA and all the horrid logo treasures it contains! First Marcus walks everybody through some of the worst basketball logos this planet has to offer. From acorns to turtles, they cover them all! Then they check out every current NBA logo and discuss whether they make sense, how many ways the typography is awful, how consistency must be a foreign concept and how Mark Cuban can sleep at night knowing the current state of the Mavericks logo. After that, they play a quick game to establish who is the supreme authority on all things NBA branding. Add a few AIDS references, some classic Sicily charm, and it technically constitutes as an episode! Enjoy!
This episode was accidentally brought to you by Nathan's Un-Used Competition Hot Dogs, The Estate of Magic Johnson, Dribbble and other things.
