Jimmy Boyd (January 9, 1939 – March 7, 2009) was an American singer, musician, and actor. He was known for his recording of the song "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus".
Early years
James Boyd was born near McComb, Mississippi to Leslie and Winnie Boyd. His father was a farmer and picked cotton to help support his own family of 21 brothers and sisters. When Jimmy Boyd was two years old, his father put his wife and their two sons on a train to Riverside, California. With not enough money to buy tickets for himself, Leslie Boyd hitchhiked on freight trains to join his family.
Jimmy Boyd's grandfather, William Boyd ("Fiddler Bill") played at dances and family gatherings in Mississippi. Fiddler Bill's children all sang or played musical instruments. Leslie played guitar and harmonica and began teaching Jimmy to play the guitar at nine years old. Leslie had been a farmer when a drought hit and there were no more crops, so he picked cotton. He could pick over 600 pounds of cotton a day himself, and was paid 25 cents. Although there was no cotton in California to pick, this time they were determined to stay. Leslie got a menial job cleaning up construction sites, quickly becoming an accomplished finish carpenter.
Born in Glasgow, Boyd began his career with junior side Petershill before turning senior with Edinburgh side St Bernards. He joined Newcastle United in 1925 and stayed there for ten years, making 214 appearances and scoring 64 goals for the Magpies. During this period he helped his side win the FA Cup in 1932 and earned one cap for Scotland, in 1934.
American Bandstand is an American music-performance show that aired in various versions from 1952 to 1989 and was hosted from 1956 until its final season by Dick Clark, who also served as producer. The show featured teenagers dancing to Top 40 music introduced by Clark; at least one popular musical act—over the decades, running the gamut from Jerry Lee Lewis to Run DMC—would usually appear in person to lip-sync one of their latest singles. Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon holds the record for most appearances at 110.
The show's popularity helped Dick Clark become an American media mogul and inspired similar long-running music programs, such as Soul Train and Top of the Pops. Clark eventually assumed ownership of the program through his Dick Clark Productions company.
Background
American Bandstand premiered locally in late March 1950 as Bandstand on Philadelphia television station WFIL-TV Channel 6 (now WPVI-TV), as a replacement for a weekday movie that had shown predominantly British films. Hosted by Bob Horn as a television adjunct to his radio show of the same name on WFIL radio, Bandstand mainly featured short musical films produced by Snader Telescriptions and Official Films, with occasional studio guests. This incarnation was an early predecessor of sorts of the music video shows that became popular in the 1980s, featuring films that are themselves the ancestors of music videos.
American Bandstand is an album by American keyboardist and composer Wayne Horvitz recorded in 1999 and released on the Canadian Songlines label. The album was later released under the title Forever after Dick Clark objected to the original title.
Reception
The Allmusic review by Tim Sheridan awarded the album 4½ stars stating "Working with his band Zony Mash in an acoustic setting, Horvitz creates an album that is rich with flavor".

When Stinson did not seek a second term in the House 1943 because of his military commitment, Boyd succeeded him and won a second term by seventy-seven votes in the 1947 primary election over Herman "Wimpy" Jones, a restaurateur from Bossier City and Minden in neighboring Webster Parish. Jones rebounded in 1956 to serve a single term in the Louisiana State Senate for Bossier and Webster parishes with his narrow victory over Harold Montgomery, a businessman from Doyline in southwestern Webster Parish.
