Lebanese army clashes with Hezbollah, Amal supporters during overnight protests in Beirut
Lebanese troops lobbed tear gas on Tuesday to disperse supporters of Shi'ite groups Hezbollah and Amal who tried to storm a square in Beirut in response to a video that purportedly offended Shi'ite figures.
Hundreds of youths on motorcycles waving their party and religious flags gathered in central Beirut chanting "Shi'ites, Shi'ites" and setting fire to tyres and cars. They hurled stones and fireworks at security forces standing nearby.
Wreckage of burnt cars, damaged phone booths and shattered tents was all that was left in the streets of Beirut and the southern Lebanese city of Sidon after clashes raged overnight between the army and Shi'ite groups.

The elections are the first since war broke out in neighbouring Syria in 2011, sending over one million refugees to Lebanon, a small country with an estimated population of around 4.5 million.

STORYLINE:
Hundreds of Sunni Future Movement supporters attended Tuesday's funeral in Beirut for a woman who was accidentally shot dead, during clashes with the Amal Shiite movement.
Chanting mourners carried Zeina Al-Miri's coffin through the streets of the Lebanese capital.
The 30-year-old Sunni woman was killed and three men were wounded in a gunbattle on Sunday evening between Sunni supporters of Lebanon's prime minister-designate and parliamentary majority leader Saad Hariri, and rival followers of the Hezbollah-allied Shiite Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.
An accidental bystander, Al-Miri was shot outside her home in the Aisha Bakkar neighbourhood.
On Monday, relatives vented their anger over the shooting by burning tyres and briefly blocking a road, in a sign of the country's lingering tensions as it struggles to form a unity government.
The brief protest came despite heavy deployment of troops in mixed Sunni-Shiite districts of the Lebanese capital to prevent any renewal of Sunday's outburst - the first sectarian violence since this month's divisive parliament elections.
The clashes underlined Lebanon's tensions despite pledges by rival political leaders to turn a new page and work together to set up a unity government after the June 7 vote.
Sunday's clashes triggered flashbacks to May 2008 when the Shiite Hezbollah militants along with Berri's Amal movement swept through Sunni neighbourhoods in Beirut to briefly seize control.
The sectarian violence that followed left 81 people dead nationwide and more than 200 wounded.
An Arab-brokered political agreement later restored peace and an interim unity government was set up until the June parliament elections.
