Chronic fatigue syndrome
Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a complex medical condition, characterized by long-term fatigue and other symptoms. These symptoms are to such a degree that they limit a person's ability to carry out ordinary daily activities. CFS may also be referred to as systemic exertion intolerance disease (SEID), myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), post-viral fatigue syndrome (PVFS), chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS), or several other terms.Quality of life of persons with CFS can be extremely compromised.
Biological, genetic, infectious, and psychological mechanisms have been proposed, but the cause is not understood. The fatigue of CFS is not due to ongoing exertion, is not much relieved by rest, and is not due to any other medical condition. Diagnosis is based on a patient's signs and symptoms.
There is agreement that CFS has a negative effect on health, happiness and productivity but there is also controversy over many aspects of the disorder. Physicians, researchers and patient advocates promote different names and diagnostic criteria, while evidence for proposed causes and treatments is often contradictory or of low quality.

A yuppie (/ˈjʌpi/; short for "young urban professional" or "young upwardly-mobile professional") is defined by one source as being "a young college-educated adult who has a job that pays a lot of money and who lives and works in or near a large city". This acronym first came into use in the early 1980s.

Joseph Epstein was credited for coining the term in 1982, although this is contested. The first printed appearance of the word was in a May 1980 Chicago magazine article by Dan Rottenberg. The term gained currency in the United States in 1983 when syndicated newspaper columnist Bob Greene published a story about a business networking group founded in 1982 by the former radical leader Jerry Rubin, formerly of the Youth International Party (whose members were called yippies); Greene said he had heard people at the networking group (which met at Studio 54 to soft classical music) joke that Rubin had "gone from being a yippie to being a yuppie". The headline of Greene's story was From Yippie to Yuppie.East Bay Express humorist Alice Kahn claimed to have coined the word in a 1983 column. This claim is disputed. The proliferation of the word was affected by the publication of The Yuppie Handbook in January 1983 (a tongue-in-cheek take on The Official Preppy Handbook), followed by Senator Gary Hart's 1984 candidacy as a "yuppie candidate" for President of the United States. The term was then used to describe a political demographic group of socially liberal but fiscally conservative voters favoring his candidacy.Newsweek magazine declared 1984 "The Year of the Yuppie", characterizing the salary range, occupations, and politics of yuppies as "demographically hazy". The alternative acronym yumpie, for young upwardly mobile professional, was also current in the 1980s but failed to catch on.

"Yuppie Rap" has finally been transferred to HD in all of its 16mm grainy goodness! Yuppie Rap is the classic music video from 1989 that parodies the "have-it-all" lifestyle. Mike Saad wrote the lyrics and I wrote the music and played the lead character. (I posted Mike's lyrics below.) Yuppie Rap is the classic music video from 1989 that parodies the "have-it-all" lifestyle. Mike Saad wrote the lyrics and I wrote the music and played the lead character. (I posted Mike's lyrics below.)
The video played on several music video shows including Night Flight which was a show that respected the art of music videos rather than the junky promotional tools they became for bands. We shot Yuppie Rap in and around the Santa Monica Beach where Mike and I resided with a bunch of other extras. Mike played the "Kamikaze Sushi guy" and various friends filled in the other roles. There was record company interest in Yuppie Rap, but they didn't know what to do with a parody song. MTV never aired it because it didn't come from a record label. While we may not call them yuppies anymore, Yuppie Rap seems to still connect with younger fans who yearn for 80’s nostalgia.
I finally transferred the original 16mm negative to HD and recut the video which includes extending the end scene in the kitchen (filmed at Chez Jay in Santa Monica). The scene where I’m trying to model my hair after Donald Trump on a magazine cover is eerily prophetic.

Scientists at the Center for Infection and Immunity at Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health have identified changes in the immune system of people with chronic fatigue syndrome, known medically as myalgic encephalomyelitis. These findings are provide the most definitive evidence to date that the condition is biologically based, not psychological.
The large, multicenter study, published on February 27 in the journal Science Advances, presents evidence of increased amounts of certain immune molecules called cytokines in patients who had the disease three years or less that were not present in those with the disease for longer periods or in those without the disease.
In a video interview, lead researcher Mady Hornig, MD, associate professor of epidemiology, explains that the findings could help improve diagnosis and identify treatment options for the disabling disorder, which has symptoms that range from extreme fatigue and difficulty concentrating to headaches and muscle pain.
Tangible substantiation of disease and the possibility of a blood test is a game-changer for people with the disease, says Hornig, who is also director of translational research at the Center for Infection and Immunity. “This can bring individuals who have been denied a diagnosis, and denied recognition of their illness… to an early diagnosis that may in addition tell us something about what is causing their illness and how potentially to treat it.”

These include impaired function, post-exertional malaise, unrefreshing sleep, and either cognitive impairment or orthostatic intolerance. She notes people experiencing long COVID syndrome may double this patient population making it essential for clinicians to recognize, diagnose, and treat these patients as early as possible. Chronic fatigue syndrome
Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a complex medical condition, characterized by long-term fatigue and other symptoms. These symptoms are to such a degree that they limit a person's ability to carry out ordinary daily activities. CFS may also be referred to as systemic exertion intolerance disease (SEID), myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), post-viral fatigue syndrome (PVFS), chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS), or several other terms.Quality of life of persons with CFS can be extremely compromised.
Biological, genetic, infectious, and psychological mechanisms have been proposed, but the cause is not understood. The fatigue of CFS is not due to ongoing exertion, is not much relieved by rest, and is not due to any other medical condition. Diagnosis is based on a patient's signs and symptoms.
There is agreement that CFS has a negative effect on health, happiness and productivity but there is also controversy over many aspects of the disorder. Physicians, researchers and patient advocates promote different names and diagnostic criteria, while evidence for proposed causes and treatments is often contradictory or of low quality.

"Yuppie Rap" has finally been transferred to HD in all of its 16mm grainy goodness!
Yuppie Rap is the classic music video from 1989 that parodies the "have-it-all" lifestyle. Mike Saad wrote the lyrics and I wrote the music and played the lead character. (I posted Mike's lyrics below.)
The video played on several music video shows including Night Flight which was a show that respected the art of music videos rather than the junky promotional tools they became for bands. We shot Yuppie Rap in and around the Santa Monica Beach where Mike and I resided with a bunch of other extras. Mike played the "Kamikaze Sushi guy" and various friends filled in the other roles. There was record company interest in Yuppie Rap, but they didn't know what to do with a parody song. MTV never aired it because it didn't come from a record label. While we may not call them yuppies anymore, Yuppie Rap seems to still connect with younger fans who yearn for 80’s nostalgia.
I finally transferred the original 16mm negative to HD and recut the video which includes extending the end scene in the kitchen (filmed at Chez Jay in Santa Monica). The scene where I’m trying to model my hair after Donald Trump on a magazine cover is eerily prophetic.
