Alpine Racer 2, along with Tetris, was used by Harvard sleep scientist Robert Stickgold to study the relationship between learning and sleep. He found that after playing the game for hours before going to sleep, even subjects suffering from anterograde amnesia, the inability to form new memories, would dream of skiing.

Alpine Racer is a 3DAlpine skiingarcade game released by Namco in 1994. It features downhill and gate with three courses and two play modes - Race and Time Attack. The player stands on a set of ski-like foot stands while holding onto two bars for stability to play.
The player moves the on-screen skier down a course, while avoiding collision with obstacles, such as trees and rocks, or falling off the edge of the slope.
Three different courses are selectable, each increasing in difficulty with the addition of fast-moving obstacles and sharper turns, alongside three difficulty levels: "Novice", "Intermediate", and "Expert".
Two game modes are present: Speed Racing (Normal) and Gate Racing (Technical).
In Speed Racing, the player is pitted against five computer-controlled opponents to try and make it to the bottom of the course, the goal being to finish in first place. Finishing in first place will show the player a replay of their performance in the game.

Title: Forward Motion
Game: Alpine Racer 3
Composer and lyrics: Asuka Sakai [Namco]
Singer: Lori Fine [COLDFEET]
Year: 2002
Commentary: A lovely jazzy 2-step banger, Sakai confirmed via email correspondence that she composed it, and it is also listed on COLDFEET's site as "Forward Motion". so yeah, this is the new game i've taken on for alpine april. it's not a "better game" than SSX in pretty much any regard (and somehow even MORE niche than SSX xd), but it's so unique that it's well worth playing for me. i've got some IL uploads planned for the future too...
I loved the Alpine Racer series as a kid, the cabinet is a super cool twin pair of skis that you move back and forth with your hips. This is another game that relies heavily on use of the D and G keys to perform tight cornering. Managed to get a faster Intermediate time, but ran out of hard disk space mid run and lost the capture. But other than that this was a super fun game to play and I hope more people come to show how the levels can be really minmaxed!

Gate Racing has the player going down a course solo; this mode adds a time limit that counts down as the game progresses, and will cause the game to end if it fully depletes. A second of time can be restored by passing through large gates found scattered across the course.
In one of the courses, Pac-Man can be seen on a billboard sporting a Santa hat.
A replay of the run with different perspectives is shown after the game is over, only if you get 1st place in Speed Racing or do a Perfect run in Gate Racing.
