Aldeburgh is a coastal town in the county of Suffolk, East Anglia, England.
Aldeburgh is world-renowned thanks to its connection with Benjamin Britten, the founder of the Aldeburgh Festival, which takes place in June every year. Pastel-coloured 19th Century holiday villas line the promenade and to the east, the pebble beach with fisherman’s huts selling the daily catch.
The town is within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), with a number of Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and nature reserves in its locality.

Many Girls In A Boat - At Aldeburgh (1932)
Aldeburgh, Suffolk. "You've heard of the old lady who lived in a shoe. Well, here are young ladies who live in a boat." L/S of a very large, very strange looking houseboat. Girls wave from the deck. Closer shot of the houseboat as lots of girls in swimsuits run down the steps from the boat. Low angle shot of the girls coming down the steps.
"Originally a trawler, it is moored high and dry, and is now a summer school, (for the Greenwich Girls' Home)." The girls have fun amongst the dunes around the boat. They play leapfrog and cook some food on a little fire beside the boat. The postman arrives and gives letters to a woman in a nurses uniform who hands them to the girls. The girls all cuddle each other and laugh as they read their mail. The tide has come in around the boat a...

Aldeburgh Walk: Town Centre & Beach【4K】
Located in the county of Suffolk, and around 20 miles east, and slightly north, of Ipswich, is the town of Aldeburgh (pronounced 'ALL-borough').
The town's name is derived from Old English for 'old fort', although the fort alluded to by the Anglo-Saxons has long since been lost to the sea. During the medieval era it was a tiny fishing village. It began to grow in the 16th century as it became a prominent port with a thriving shipbuilding industry.
In 1529 Henry VIII granted borough status to Aldeburgh. One of the key architectural remnants of this period is Moot Hall, first seen in detail at the 5-minute mark, and again around the 36-minute mark. This dates from circa 1520 and was originally an assembly building. Today it functions as a museum dedicated to the local area. The building is...

VANLIFE - We hit the Wild Camping JACKPOT! - Aldeburgh, Suffolk.
Hey welcome back......In this weeks episode, we give Suffolk a visit and are pleasantly surprised at how good of a spot we found to last minute wild camp!
After a number of 'non-welcoming of van' visits around neighbouring Norfolk in the past, we were delighted by how friendly and accommodating the lovely people of Suffolk were towards us.
We stumbled across the seaside town of Aldeburgh and couldn't have been happier with it's many coffee shops, eateries, pubs, shops, overall character and things to do.
We even took a random stop off at an amazing Vintage Clothing Store on the outskirts of town to find some great treasures.

"Almost a life on the ocean waves - but the only waves are permanent ones!" M/S of the girls having their dinner on deck. Closer shot of the girls. Ends with a L/S of the boat as before with the girls and their nurse waving from the deck.

The town gets its name from ‘Alde’ and ‘burgh’ meaning ‘old fort’ and is a former Tudor port given borough status by Henry VIII himself. The town and its shipbuilders were responsible for the creation of several famous vessels; Sir Francis Drake’s Golden Hind and the Virginia Company’s Sea Venture, to name but a few.
Aldeburgh has a rich cultural identity and is home to the Aldeburgh Literary Festival, multiple galleries and iconic sculptures as well as the Aldeburgh Music Club started by Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears in 1952.
Keep your eyes peeled for some of the well known people who call Aldeburgh home, from former Manchester United and Ireland midfielder Roy Keane to Peter Sinfield, founding member and lyricist for 70’s prog rock band King Crimson.
The town is famous for its outstanding fish and chips with the local fish and chip shop, owned by the Cooney family having received rave reviews from national publications.
The Martello tower in Aldeburgh is recorded as the largest in the UK, being made up of four towers joined together, it has been converted into holiday accommodation and is a unique place to stay when visiting the town.

The building is Grade I listed.
Aldeburgh's importance as a port declined after the Rive Alde silted up, leaving large vessels unable to berth here. It reverted to being a small fishing settlement until the 19th century when it became a fashionable seaside resort.
In 1860 a railway station opened in Aldeburgh courtesy of the East Suffolk Railway. This was the terminus of the Aldeburgh Branch Line, which linked up to Saxmundham on the East Suffolk Line. In 1966 the station, along with the branch line, closed as part of the Beeching Cuts - where over 2,000 stations were closed across Great Britain in order to promote road travel. Today, public transport to Aldeburgh consists of direct buses from Ipswich, Woodbridge, Saxmundham and various other nearby settlements.
In 1947 composer Benjamin Britten moved to Aldeburgh. Having been born in Lowestoft in 1913, he was evidently drawn back to the Suffolk coast. His first property in Aldeburgh was Crag House, whose views of the sea are said to have inspired his subsequent works. In 1948 he co-founded the Aldeburgh Festival of Music and the Arts dedicated mainly to classical music. In 1962 Britten received the Freedom of the Borough of Aldeburgh which was presented to him in the Moot Hall.
