Inspiration and good mood: THAT’S CINEMA! | Agnès Varda | TEDxVeniceBeach
At the age of 89 legendary French New Wave and documentary director Agnès Varda reflects on how three ideas central to the life of an artist - inspiration, creation, and sharing - have shaped her career over seven decades of filmmaking. She talks about "the emergency of inspiration", the urgency an artist feels when inspiration strikes, and reveals what sparked her iconic films including CLEO FROM 5 TO 7, VAGABOND, THE BEACHES OF AGNES, THE WORLD OF JACQUES DEMY, THE GLEANERS AND I, and FACES, PLACES (which was nominated for an Oscar in the same year in which she won an honorary career Oscar).

Agnès Varda: The Life, The Art, The Legend
There’s a reason that we spell “queen” V-A-R-D-A! It’s because she’s been changing the game for no less than the last half-century, influencing giants from Godard and Truffaut to Scorsese and Coppola. Since 1955, she has made twenty-two features and as many short films, and both her narrative work and her documentaries possess a look, a sound, and a joie de vivre that are uniquely her alone, and persist no matter what the subject. Her newest, Faces Places, proves that at almost ninety years old, she’s still a revelation. This video is a personal and heartfelt tribute to Agnès Varda in all of her iconoclastic glory—and she has plenty to speak of.
Check out our "Gush" episodes on Anton Yelchin, Jennifer Lawrence, Angela Bassett, Daniel Day-Lewis, Bryan Cranston, and Nicole Kidman.

Her influential career began in the 1950s with La Pointe Courte - often considered the unofficial first film of the New Wave - and continues seven decades later, as in 2017 she became the first female director to be awarded an honorary Oscar.
The Agnès Varda Collection is a selection of her most illuminating narrative features. The Blu-ray box set contains eight discs spanning six decades of Varda’s feature films, over six hours of special features (including interviews, featurettes and short films) plus a specially commissioned 100-page book.
