Kevin James LaBrie (born May 5, 1963) is a Canadian vocalist and songwriter, who is best known as the lead singer of the American progressive metal band Dream Theater.
Early life
Kevin James LaBrie was born in Penetanguishene, Ontario, Canada and started playing drums at age 5. By his mid-teens, he was a member of several bands as a front man that attempted singing and/or drumming. He stopped playing drums at age 17 and in 1981, at age 18, he moved to Toronto.
In 1990, LaBrie learned that American progressive metal band Dream Theater was looking for a new singer, so he submitted a tape and was quickly flown to New York for a full audition. The trial went well, and he was chosen ahead of 200 other hopefuls to fill the full-time vocalist position in that band.
LaBrie has since had a significant impact on the vocal melodies on each Dream Theater album, but until recently has had little input on the instrumentation of Dream Theater's music - 2011's A Dramatic Turn of Events features LaBrie in the music credits on three songs. To date he has written or co-written lyrics for at least one song on eight of the eleven albums Dream Theater has released with him in the band, Images and Words,Black Clouds & Silver Liningsand Dream Theater containing none of them.

Mullmuzzler - Statued
Lyric:
I sit and read your story
Mortal image statued
Delusions of one's glory
Irony masked in virtue
When mom she told me
"I'm not going to live forever"
She gave this manuscript to me
"To read when I am gone"
Tell me what it's like to be
Where you are, I wanna be
The invitation
To this sensation
As I read the last few lines
I slowly start to realize
You have opened up my mind
This is completely beautiful
And now it all makes sense
These words I wish she spoke to me
It was right in front of me
I feel her next to me
Tell me what it's like to be
Where you are, I wanna be
The invitation
To this sensation
I need to break away
Need to break through
Throw it all away
Show me how to
I adore you
I won't forget you
I adore you
You helped me break through
I adore you
You held onto me
I ador...

The air's so thick It blurs my vision I can't think straight In this condition This dim lit hall Is stretching further Not knowing What I might discover Through a door half open A painted light bulb swings Casting someone's shadow Reaching towards me Something draws me here Not sure Feeling Drained Still I am curious Haunts me Taunts me Now I start to Gravitate Remain composed I hear some laughter The darkness in me Moving faster A handle turned A door is opened Ashtrays Cigarettes still smoking And there again before me The painted light bulb swings And see I cast the shadow The one I saw moving Cannot catch my breath Can't cope His face turns toward me Can't be Not me The man in the mirror It's all too clear As I stood there Acknowledged him In reflective glare I don't quite understand Why any of this Is who I am I'm damned cause I doubt It's part of me Trick of the mind Pschitso you see It's like awakening I'm in Someone else's skin Molds me Holds me Controlled Left me Drained and empty Transformed Shifting I peer inside Like quicksand You pulled me Down deeper
