Adyghe (/ˈædᵻɡeɪ/ or /ˌɑːdᵻˈɡeɪ/; Circassian language: Адыгэ Adyge) are Western Circassian (Russian: Адыгейцы Adygeytsy), peoples of the northern Caucasus, who speak the Adyghe language. In a wider sense, "Adyghe" can also refer to all of the Circassian peoples (whose native demonym is Адыгэ Adyge; Russian:Адыги Adygi).
The political history of the Adyghe proper since the Russian Revolution is complex. On 27 July 1922, a Circassian (Adygea) Autonomous Oblast was established in the Kuban-Black Sea Oblast, which would later become Krasnodar Krai. After several name changes, the Adyghe Autonomous Oblast was established on 3 August 1928. On 5 October 1990, the Adygea ASSR was proclaimed and separated from Krasnodar Krai. On 24 March 1992, it became the Republic of Adygea. A significant population of the Adyghe community now lives in the Black Sea region of Northern Turkey where their culture is preserved in villages in the area.
What on Earth happened to the Circassians? The Caucasus is an interesting region with a load of many diverse and unique peoples such as the Armenians, Georgians and Azerbaijanis, but what about the groups that you probably haven't heard of? Thousands of years before the present day, different peoples inhabited parts of Europe and the Near East who, linguistically-speaking, are entirely unrelated to the groups we see there today. The Circassians are an example of such an ancient people.
In today's video we're going to be looking at the history and culture of the Circassians and some of the surrounding Caucasian natives like the Abkhaz, Chechens, Ingush and Dagestanis. Thanks for watching!

They say the Adyghes (Circassian) are one of the oldest peoples in the world. Today these people are scattered around the world. According to some reports, the Adyghe (Circassian) population today is 14 million. Here, people still abduct their brides and bridegrooms, never meeting their future wife's parents. Here you can find old table-stones and also meet the first female gunsmith in the Northern Caucasus.

I studied different dialects and subgroups of Armenian people and learned very interesting history about the neighborhood of Armenian and Circassian nations. Not everyone in Armenia knows the history of Cherkesogais. Cherkesogais or Circassian Armenians are ethnic Armenians who have inhabited Russia's Krasnodar Krai and Republic of Adyghea since the end of 15th century and spoke the Cyrcassian language (currently, most of them speak Russian as their first language), apart from other Armenians living in the region. They reside mostly in the cities of Armavir and Maykop. They have long history of the neighborhood with Circassian people.
