Sounds Sick Episode 28: Acoustic 220 ( Acoustic Control Corporation )
Welcome to episode #28 of Sounds Sick, the format, where we´re gonna present a bunch of cool and/or unusual stuff from our studio!
The videos show the sound that really let´s the amp/gear shine , in our opinion. Wether it´s a jangly clean tone or fuzzy rock sound.
This time we´re featuring the Acoustic 220.
This Solid State Bass and Guitar head was made somewhere around the late 70s to early 80s by the Acoustic Control Corporation.
Acoustic is known for their Solid State Bass Amps, that we´re famously used by John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin and Jaco Pastorius! And you can definetly hear why!
Angry!
Very similar to the Acoustic 126, but with more power and headroom. This makes the amp feel a lot stiffer, and sound more angry. Great for heavy rock riffage!

The Acoustic Control 261 Amp/Cabinet weights about 130lbs and packs a mean punch when played at full volume. I decided to take this bad girl outside and let her sing a little bit.
The fuzz channel is a bit scratchy but the rest of her doesn't sound to bad.

1970s Acoustic Control Corporation Model 150 Amp [Rock/Metal/Doom Sound Demo]
The Acoustic model 150 was a guitar amplifier head that was produced in the 1970s. It is rated at 110w at 4 ohms, and features two channels with reverb and tremolo. These heads take pedals very well and are versatile enough to work with lots of different genres of music. For this video, I'll be focusing on rock, metal and stoner/doom.
Signal chain in order: HH Strat + Danelectro Cool Cat Overdrive (Section 1) + Proco Rat into EHX Big Muff Pi (Section 2 & 3) + Acoustic 150 + Traynor YGC-412 (Eminence Cannabis Rex Speakers) + Shure SM57 + Focusrite Scarlett Solo. Reverb is from the DAW.

A customer brought this in for repair. It's an unusual 1982 Acoustic Control Corp. G-60T. I thought we might seize the opportunity to check out the guts, the schematic, and the tone. This is an interesting amp from a company I usually associate with bass amps. Tubes are two 6L6GC output, two 12ax7, and one 12AT7 phase inverter.

This is just the perfect, instant vintage, Bass sound!
All the controls are at noon, and it just sounds great.
If you ever wanted to get that nice midrange heavy natural sounding bass, than this is definetly one of the best options!
It is really woody sounding, and quite soft, but not in a mushy kind of way. Hard to describe, just listen for yourself.
One can really hear, why people like John Paul Jones used it. Or Jaco Pastorius, if you want to add even more midrange! :)

http://onedamnote.com "Do it Robbie do it", Jim Morrison said in the song Road House Blues. That was the first time I learned how to pick out some triplets and pull some crazy bends up round the 12th fret.
This is when I started my quest to find the amps shown in the doors videos. The Acoustic 261 made by Acoustic Control Corporation. This is one powerful solid state amplifier made in the 70's.
House PA systems were not really good so a lot of the bands used huge amps to fill the venues with their sound.
It took me three years to hunt down one of these amps because most of the working ones are kept by avid collectors. This one was said to be used by the doors but there is no way I know of to authenticate that claim. All I know is it loud and it good. The amp does need a little work but for being over 30 years old and used as a gigging amp. It does pretty good.
