Abu Dhabi (US /ˈɑːbuːˈdɑːbi/, UK /ˈæbuːˈdɑːbi/; Arabic:أبو ظبيAbū Ẓabī Emirati pronunciation [ɐˈbuˈðˤɑbi]) is the capital and the second most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (the most populous being Dubai), and also capital of Abu Dhabi emirate, the largest of the UAE's seven member emirates. Abu Dhabi lies on a T-shaped island jutting into the Persian Gulf from the central western coast. The city proper had a population of 1.5 million in 2014.
Abu Dhabi houses federal government offices, is the seat of the United Arab Emirates Government, home to the Abu Dhabi Emiri Family and the President of the UAE, who is from this family. Abu Dhabi's rapid development and urbanisation, coupled with the relatively high average income of its population, has transformed the city into a large and advanced metropolis. Today the city is the country's center of political and industrial activities, and a major cultural and commercial centre, due to its position as the capital. Abu Dhabi accounts for about two-thirds of the roughly $400-billion United Arab Emirates economy.
The Emirate of Abu Dhabi (/ˌæbuːˈdɑːbi/, /ˌɑː-/, or /-ˈdæ-/;Arabic:إمارة أبو ظبيImārat Abū Ẓaby, pronounced[ʔabuː ˈðˤɑbi]), is one of seven Emirates that constitute the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is the largest emirate by area (67,340km²), accounting for approximately 87 per cent of the total land area of the federation. Abu Dhabi also has the largest population of the seven emirates. In June 2011, it was estimated to be 2,120,700 people, of which, 439,100 people (less than 21%) were Emirati citizens, which has risen to 2.3 million in 2012.
Abu Dhabi is the capital city of the emirate, after which it is named, as well as the capital of the federation.
Abu Dhabi’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) estimates, in 2011, amounted to AED 806,031 million at current prices. Mining and quarrying (includes crude oil and natural gas) accounts for the largest contribution to GDP (58.5 per cent in 2011). Construction related industries are the next largest contributor (10.1 per cent in 2011). GDP grew to AED 911.6 billion in 2012, or over 100,000 USD per capita.
An international airport is an airport that offers customs and immigration facilities for passengers travelling between countries. International airports are typically larger than domestic airports and often feature longer runways and facilities to accommodate the heavier aircraft commonly used for international and intercontinental travel. International airports often also host domestic flights. Some, such as Frankfurt Airport in Germany are very large; others such as Fa'a'ā International Airport in Tahiti, are quite small.
Buildings, operations and management have become increasingly sophisticated since the mid 20th century, when international airports began to provide infrastructure for international civilian flights. Detailed technical standards have been developed to ensure safety and common coding systems implemented to provide global consistency. The physical structures that serve millions of individual passengers and flights are among the most complex and interconnected in the world. By the second decade of the 21st century, there were over 1,200 international airports and almost two billion international passengers along with 50 million metric tonnes of cargo were passing through them annually.
Memphis International Airport(IATA: MEM,ICAO: KMEM,FAALID: MEM) is a civil-military airport seven miles (11.2km) southeast of downtown Memphis, in Shelby County, Tennessee.
Memphis International Airport is home to the FedEx Express global hub, which processes many of the company's packages. Nonstop FedEx destinations from Memphis include cities across the continental United States, Europe, Middle East, Asia and South America. From 1993 to 2009 Memphis had the largest cargo operations of any airport worldwide. MEM dropped into second position in 2010, behind Hong Kong; however, it remained the busiest cargo airport in the United States.
As of 2014, Memphis International Airport had a passenger count of 3.75 million, up slightly from the 2014 year.Delta Air Lines dropped Memphis as a hub airport after continually reducing flights following its 2008 merger with Northwest Airlines. As of July 2014 MEM averaged 83 total passenger flights per day on all of the airlines serving the city. The airport has since added several airlines, including Southwest, Frontier, and Allegiant, which has increased competition among the carriers. Since Delta's departure as a hub operation, average round trip prices have declined significantly. The July–September 2014 quarter alone saw a 4.7% decline from the quarter a year earlier.
Philadelphia International Airport(IATA: PHL,ICAO: KPHL,FAALID: PHL), often referred to just by its IATA code PHL, is a major airport in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, and is the largest airport in the Delaware Valley region and in the state. The airport is a major international hub for American Airlines and a regional cargo hub for UPS Airlines. The airport has service to destinations in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East. Most of the airport property is located in Philadelphia proper. The international terminal and the western end of the airfield are located in Tinicum Township, Delaware County.
The airport, 16.5 nautical miles (30.6km; 19.0mi) east of Abu Dhabi city, is the second largest in the UAE, serving around 20 million passengers in 2014. It has three operational passenger terminals—Terminal 1 (divided into Terminals 1A and 1B), Terminal 2, Terminal 3. Abu Dhabi International Airport is spread over an area of 3,400 hectares (8,500 acres). Its terminal spaces are dominated by Etihad Airways, which is the United Arab Emirates' second largest air carrier after Emirates.
The Al Bateen Airport on Abu Dhabi Island previously served as Abu Dhabi's main airport and consisted of a single airstrip with minimal to this, smaller aircraft would land on an unsealed runway located not too far from Al Bateen, and the passengers would be processed in a tiny makeshift building. Limited flights were operated from Al Bateen and included flights to other Middle Eastern cities and Mumbai International Airport (then known as Bombay International Airport). After many years of operations, the airport was shifted to the mainland in 1982. Bateen Airport is presently used as a dedicated business jet airport.
Inside The $3 Billion New Terminal of Abu Dhabi Airport
Abu Dhabi Airport Terminal A has opened. I visited the brand new terminal that completely changed the travel experience.
Covering 742,000 square meters, it is one of the largest airport terminals in the world. The $3 billion building, which is triple the size of the old terminal, is set to double the current airport's capacity and manage up to 45 million passengers per year. It's capable of handling 79 planes at once and 11,000 passengers per hour.
Stands at the center of the new terminal at Abu Dhabi airport is Sana Al‐Nour, a unique structure and the largest public artwork in the Middle East. The departure area features 12 check-in rows with self check-in counter. There are dedicated check-in areas for Etihad Business and First Class passengers.

The new state-of-the-art terminal at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) welcomed its first passengers, signalling a new era in aviation history for the UAE. The new terminal brings a major increase in capacity for Abu Dhabi’s commercial aviation sector, more than doubling the number of passengers with the facilities to process up to 45 million travellers annually. The terminal will further strengthen Abu Dhabi’s global standing as an aviation hub, capable of handling 79 planes at once and 11,000 passengers per hour. The increase in capacity allows for airlines to boost their presence in Abu Dhabi in response to growing demand.
With leading facilities, including biometric technology to streamline the screening and boarding process, 35,000 square metres of retail and F&B space and 163 outlets for passengers to shop, dine and enjoy, the new terminal will enhance the travel experience for all passengers, end to end, as well as travellers transferring to other destinations.
Flights from other terminals at Abu Dhabi International Airport will gradually transition to the new terminal throughout November. Passengers flying before 14 November are urged to check travel information with their respective airlines prior to travelling to or collecting visitors from the airport.
What is the terminal A at Abu Dhabi?

Wide awake I'm on a plane out of town Fly away From the weight of the world On the ground I'm international But I don't know where to go Hopefully where summer days Can melt these winter bones I'm international And you're orbiting my brain I'm reduced to writing nothing All over napkins on the plane Wide awake I'm on a plane out of town Taking pictures of myself In the mirror on wall Trying hard not to make my space The loneliest place of all Early warning all across the sky Clouds are rolling in on your light Any change from here would be The wisest change of all Any place from here up here Would be the finest place to fall Wide awake I'm on a plane out of town I'm losing track of myself On all the time zone lines And if I daylight save Do I jump ahead or fall behind?
