5 Things You May Not Remember About Arco Arena | The Touchback
Arco Arena was loud and rambunctious in its heyday. The venue was also a dump and outdated the minute it opened. Despite this, both former Sacramento Kings players and NBA rivals speak highly of the old barn. Even Kobe Bryant waxes nostalgic about it in his last game there.
"This has always been a special place, not just for me, but for the city itself. It's sad to see this place go. There is so much history here," Bryant explained.
The thing is, there wasn’t a lot of history in Arco Arena. Unless history is some kind of code word for losing or incompetence. With the building set to be torn down in the near future, let’s take a look at some of the things you may not remember about the NBA’s worst stadium.

Arco Arena (or Sleep Train Arena) is a legendary NBA venue that's been sitting mostly empty and abandoned since the Sacramento Kings built their new arena, the Golden 1 Center in 2016.
This building was host to Lebron James' debut in the NBA, a bunch of Michael Jordan vs Mitch Richmond battles, Mike Bibby game winning shots, Chris Webber dunks, and more. Magic Johnson got his 10,000th assist in this arena, the 1993 Royal Rumble was here, and everyone from the Rolling Stones to Justin Bieber performed at Arco Arena aka Sleep Train Arena in it's decades of history.
We explore the whole venue including locker rooms, the court, offices and the infamous Clown Tunnel aka Clown Cave hidden in the depths of the arena that would have connected it to the abandoned stadium project: ARCO PARK which was part 2 of this 3 part series on the Sacramento sports complex.

Before the former home of the Sacramento Kings was torn down this summer, KCRA 3 put together a tour for you of all the places in the arena you would have never seen if you didn't work for the team or at the arena.
The 34-year-old building was torn down to make way for the construction of a new hospital, housing and businesses on the 185-acre arena site.
