Hello. In a previous video, you looked at sensationalism. In this video, we're going to examine the 24-hour news cycle. We'll look at how it began and at two ways that it has changed the ways news is reported: giving opinions and manipulating the audience by trying to shape the way they think about something.

How the 24-Hour News Cycle Handles the Ever-Changing Headlines | Connecting Point | June 16, 2020
2020 has brought with it an unprecedented number of stories that have profoundly impacted our way of life. In January, there was the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump in the Senate. Then, the coronavirus pandemic dominated the headlines for weeks in March and April. Now, the stories are largely around police conduct and racial justice in the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody.
Janine Fondon is the Chair of the Communications Department at Bay Path University. Fondon spoke with Carolee McGrath to offer her perspective on the 24-hour news cycle and how the media navigates these important stories in this ever-changing news environment.

The 24 Hour News Cycle | Rewind the '90s | National Geographic UK
The 1990s was a decade of disruption. In media, a new way of producing the news began with the emergence of a 24 hours news cycle. Celebrities, governments and politicans rushed to catch up. Some led the charge like former US President Bill Clinton and his team who developed the concept of a "war room" which responded in real time to news, a concept still widely used by journalists today.

Diana Fairbanks is a long time television journalist now exploring the world beyond the anchor desk.
Her nearly two decades career in front of the camera took her to stations in Montana, Michigan and New York.
During her 12 years in Traverse City she won several awards for her broadcast skills, was honored by the Traverse City Business News as a "40 Under 40" influencer, and voted Best Newscaster by Traverse Magazine readers.
She is also a graduate of the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Grand Traverse program and has worked with multiple local charities, from the Swingshift and the Stars dance competition to events aimed at raising awareness and funds for those touched by breast cancer.
While in Buffalo, NY she was an Emmy-nominated journalist anchoring evening newscasts at WIVB. During her time there she was also honored as Television Personality of the Year by the Buffalo Broadcasters Association.
