Christy Ring

Nicholas Christopher Michael "Christy" Ring (12 October 1920 – 2 March 1979) was an Irish hurler who played as a right wing-forward for the Cork senior team.

Born in Cloyne, County Cork, Ring first excelled at hurling during his school days. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team, before later lining out with the junior side. He made his senior debut in the 1939–40 National Hurling League. Ring went on to play a key part for Cork over the following twenty-four years, and won eight All-Ireland medals, nine Munster medals and three National Hurling League medals. An All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions, Ring also captained the team to three All-Ireland victories.

Ring represented the Munster inter-provincial team for a record twenty-three consecutive seasons, winning a record eighteen Railway Cup medals. No other player in the history of the competition has gone into double figures. At club level he won thirteen championship medals with Glen Rovers.

2015 Christy Ring Cup

The 2015 Christy Ring Cup was the eleventh staging of the Christy Ring Cup hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 2005. The cup competition began on 2 May 2015 and ended on 6 June 2014.

Kildare were the defending champions, however, they were beaten in the semi-final.Kerry won the title after defeating Derry by 1-20 to 0-12 in the final.

Mayo were relegated from the Christy Ring Cup after losing a play-off with Roscommon.

The 2015 Christy Ring Cup is played in a double-elimination format. For clarity, the draw details are explained in each round below.

Teams

A total of eight teams contested the Christy Ring Cup, including seven sides from the 2011 Christy Ring Cup and London, who were promoted team from the 2011 Nicky Rackard Cup.

Both Armagh and Mayo failed to win any of their games in the 2011 Christy Ring Cup, however, without a play-off, Armagh were relegated to the Nicky Rackard Cup for 2012. From these two teams, Mayo had the longest tenure as a Christy Ring Cup member as the team had competed in every season since the inaugural one in 2005. Armagh joined the Christy Ring Cup in 2011 having won the previous year's Nicky Rackard Cup.

2011 Nicky Rackard Cup champions London secured direct promotion to the Christy Ring Cup. They last competed in the competition in 2008.

Carlow are the current champions; however, they did not get the chance to defend their title due to their promotion to the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship.
