But the Reds clip away scoring a pair runs in the 4th and 5th innings while taking Hunter out of the game in the 5th. McGlothin only lasts 3 innings and replaced by Pedro Borbon, Tom Hall as Oakland seems to be in control at this point of the game until the Reds 8th inning as Bobby Tolan continues his clutch hitting knocking Joe Morgan in from 2nd tying the game as Ross Grimsley comes into the game in the 8th inning (replacing Clay Carroll) and takes away any threat the A's had in the inning. In the Reds 9th a throwing error from A's reliever Rollie Fingers proved costly as the Reds score the winning run on a Pete Rose single to center (scoring Cesar Geromino) as Jack Billingham comes in the 9th inning and earns his first save of the series.

World Series - The Lineups - 1889 - New York Giants vs Brooklyn Bridegrooms
"The Lineups" is a video series which gives people a chance to "virtually" hear the starting lineups of every World Series Game 1 from 1903 up into the fifties. This video gives the listener the unique opportunity to step back in time to hear what names such as Walter Johnson or Ty Cobb might have sounded in the stadium back in the day while providing unemployed Public Address Announcers the opportunity to announce classic baseball teams during the Coronavirus Crisis.
Since the first "Automatic Enunciators" were not installed until 1913 (Ebbets and Comiskey), most games featured megaphone men. Actual "Public Address Systems" did not come up about until 1919 during the Republican National Convention. These systems mostly piped music into the stadium. General use of P.A. LOS ANGELES DODGERS
LOS ANGELES DODGERS
The franchise now known as the Dodgers was originally formed in 1883 as a member of the minor league Inter-State Association of Professional Baseball Clubs. It moved to the American Association the following year and eventually to the National League in 1890. The team went by a number of press-bestowed nicknames including the Brooklyn Atlantics, Brooklyn Grays, Brooklyn Bridegrooms, Brooklyn Grooms, Brooklyn Superbas, and Brooklyn Robins before the team settled on Brooklyn Dodgers (from Trolley Dodgers) in the World War 1 era. During the Brooklyn era, the team won the AA championship in 1889 and National League championships 12 times (1890, 1899, 1900, 1916, 1920, 1941, 1947, 1949, 1952, 1953, 1955 1956) and won their first World Series championship in 1955.

Brooklyn Dodgers New York Giants Rivalry
The historic and heated rivalry between the Dodgers and the Giants is more than a century old. It began when the Dodgers and Giants faced each other in the 1889 World Series, the ancestor of the Subway Series, and both played in separate, neighboring cities (Brooklyn and New York were separate cities until 1898, when they became neighboring boroughs of the newly expanded New York City). When both franchises moved to California after the 1957 season, the rivalry was easily transplanted, as the cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco have long been economic, political, and cultural rivals, representative of the broader Southern/Northern California divide.

New Brighton Tower (567 FT, 1898) & Mole Antonelliana (550 FT, Brick Dome, 1889) Old World Series
Howdy ya’ll. Let’s get back into the Old World Series of videos, where we focus on the largest, and most unique structures from pre-1900, and we dive into the oldest known photographs of these structures. Today we will be looking at the New Brighton Tower in England, which was the tallest building in England during the short period of time in which it stood (1898-1919).
We will also then discuss an absolute beauty, the Mole Antonelliana in Turin, Italy. This brick structure, upon completion in 1889, was the tallest brick structure in Europe. However, from the unification of Italy in 1861, through the origins of the Mole in 1863, we have a unique history which we will discuss briefly while we examine the oldest images. Enjoy!

Systems played little role in baseball until the thirties. The modern recordings in these videos take the "just imagine" approach to allow us the listening pleasure of monikers like Mathewson and Baker by a professional announcer for the very first time.
Each video is dedicated to a different state's First Responders and Health Care Workers who have put their lives on the line to help all the rest of us survive through this trying period. For this, we thank them with these simple videos we hope will put a smile on their faces.
No money, in any form, was made off of this project. It was put together in gratitude and hope.
All announcers volunteered their time, in the spirit of coping, hope and fun, to perform. We thank each one for their time and gifting us some baseball from some games mostly forgotten.
publicaddressannouncer.org was founded by Matthew C. Wallace on the principal that anyone can be a public address announcer at a variety events. The site provides articles, jobs, free recruiting, searching abilities, forms, training materials and so much more, entirely free to the public. Everything on the site, short of merchandise, is entirely free to encourage people worldwide to get on a microphone wherever they are and make a difference for their audience.
2020 season: Mookie Betts arrives, 7th championship
The 2020 Dodgers started the season 30–10, matching the best 40-game start in franchise history. The last such Dodgers start came in 1977, along with the Brooklyn teams in 1888 and 1955. This was also the best 40-game start in the majors since the 116-win Mariners began 31–9 in 2001.[34] The Dodgers finished the regular season 43–17 and won their 8th straight division title and swept both the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2020 National League Wild Card Series and the San Diego Padres in the 2020 National League Division Series. They then defeated the Atlanta Braves in the 2020 National League Championship Series, coming back from down 3 games to 1 to advance to the 2020 World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays, their third World Series appearance in the last four years and their 24th pennant in franchise history, surpassing the San Francisco Giants for the most in the National League. The Dodgers would then go on to defeat the Rays in six games, winning their first World Series since 1988, their sixth since moving to Los Angeles, and the seventh in franchise history.

Enjoy!

The 1960 World Series | Roberto Clemente | American Experience | PBS
In the bottom of the ninth inning, David and Goliath were tied, 9-9. As Pittsburgh held its collective breath, Pirate second baseman Bill Mazeroski came to the plate. When Mazeroski reached home, Clemente was there, celebrating one of the great upsets in baseball history, proud of his own big contribution to the team’s success. Once off the field, he expected to make a quick exit and catch a plane home to Puerto Rico. But he hadn’t counted on the scene outside the clubhouse. “There’s Clemente!” someone shouted and the crowd surged forward. It took him an hour to make his way through. After years of feeling himself an outsider, he had won them over. The fans of Pittsburgh, he said, had made it all worthwhile.

1960 World Series Game 7: Pittsburgh Pirates vs. New York Yankees (last 3 innings)
One of the greatest WS games of all time. This was broadcast on the MLB Channel. The footage was "lost" for 50 years before someone found it among the personal archives of the legendary singer, Bing Crosby. Bing was a part owner of the Pirates and he hired someone to shoot a 'kinescope' film of this game while he was in France. He reportedly was too nervous to watch the game in person, so he had a film made of it for him to watch later. No official videotape was made of this game altho it was televised, so the public had never seen this game since it was played in 1960. It was debuted in public before a live audience in Pittsburgh in 2010. Bob Costas hosted this showing and on the 'panel' with him on stage were 3 of the players in this game: Bobby Richardson of the Yanks and Dick Gr...

Forbes Field - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: On October 13, 1960 @3:36 PM, Pittsburgh Pirate Hall of Fame Second Baseman, Bill Mazeroski, hits the greatest and most memorable homerun in Major League Baseball history off New York Yankees pitcher Ralph Terry. The renowned game winning shot, which capped off the best World Series game of all time, occurred in the bottom of the ninth inning of game seven of the 1960 World Series against Casey Stengel's heavily favored New York Yankees. Bob Costas hosted this showing and on the 'panel' with him on stage were 3 of the players in this game: Bobby Richardson of the Yanks and Dick Groat and Bill Virdon of the champion Pirates. Among the audience were Franco Harris, Hal Smith, who hit a key 3-run HR late in the game for the Pirates, the widow of Roberto Clemente, who also of course played in this game, as well as other members of the 1960 Pirates. Bill Mazeroski also was asked to attend, but he couldnt make it (I believe he was ill), but there is recorded footage of an interview with him at the end. The broadcast was paused several times for Costas to speak with the players about what happened in the game and also with Ms. Clemente about her husband. It was a great presentation.
This is the latter part of the game, beginning in the top of the 7th inning. New York has overcome an early 4-0 deficit to go ahead 5-4. Most of the scoring occurred in the last 2 innings.
Besides Mazeroski's historic series-ending HR, the game features an unusual play (at 58:50) that I've never seen before in all my years of watching baseball. In the top of the 9th, the Yankees rallied to tie the score at 9-9 after Pittsburgh had gone ahead 9-7. The game-tying play occurred with runners on 1st and 3rd with 1 out and Yogi Berra at the plate. He hit a hard smash to first which was snagged by the 1Bman, Rocky Nelson, right after it hit the ground. The runner on first, Mickey Mantle, evidently thought the ball was caught on the fly and he dove back to first to avoid being doubled up. In fielding the ball, Nelson's momentum carried him right towards the bag, which he tagged to record the out on Berra. Mantle somehow avoided Nelson's attempt to tag him out getting back and he made it back to 1B safely. On the play, the runner on 3B, Gil McDougald, scored the tying run. The play is unusual because the ball was a fielder's choice ground ball where the batter was out at 1B but the runner on 1B neither was out nor advanced to 2B. Never seen anything like it.
Mazeroski's HR came on the 2nd pitch leading off the bottom of the 9th. Final score: 10-9. Another unusual aspect of the game is that there were no strikeouts at all. This series was also very unusual in that Pittsburgh was outscored by the Yanks 55-27, yet won the series. Still another unusual aspect: Bobby Richardson was the series MVP, I believe the only time a WS MVP was selected from the losing team.

The Greatest Homerun Ever: Bill Mazeroski 1960 Walkoff Homerun (3)

Forbes Field - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: On October 13, 1960 @3:36 PM, Pittsburgh Pirate Hall of Fame Second Baseman, Bill Mazeroski, hits the greatest and most memorable homerun in Major League Baseball history off New York Yankees pitcher Ralph Terry. The renowned game winning shot, which capped off the best World Series game of all time, occurred in the bottom of the ninth inning of game seven of the 1960 World Series against Casey Stengel's heavily favored New York Yankees. Could there have been a more dramatic homerun? Today, some 50 years later, Maz's blast is still the only Game 7, 9th-inning walk-off home run in World Series history. Watch Maz's historic homerun as called by Hall of Fame broadcaster Chuck Thompson; "Well, a little while ago, when we mentioned that this one, in typical fashion, was going right to the wire, little did we know; Art Ditmar throws—There's a swing and a high fly ball going deep to left, this may do it! Back to the wall goes Berra, it is over the fence, home run, the Pirates win!"
