The race was won by Movistar Team rider Rui Costa, who claimed the leader's yellow jersey after winning the second stage, and maintained the lead of the race until its conclusion holding off attacks from his rivals during the final two stages. Costa's winning margin over runner-up Fränk Schleck of RadioShack–Nissan – the 2010 winner – was fourteen seconds, and Omega Pharma–Quick-Step's Levi Leipheimer, the defending champion, completed the podium, seven seconds down on Schleck and twenty-one behind Costa.
In the race's other classifications, Ag2r–La Mondiale rider Matteo Montaguti won the King of the Mountains classification,Liquigas–Cannondale's Peter Sagan comfortably won the white jersey for the points classification, having won four stages during the race including the race-opening time trial stage. Astana finished at the head of the teams classification, winning two of the last three stages through Fredrik Kessiakoff's seventh stage time trial victory and Tanel Kangert winning the final stage.
The 2015 Tour de Suisse was the 79th edition of the Tour de Suisse stage race. It took place from 13 to 21 June and was the seventeenth race of the 2015 UCI World Tour. It started in Risch-Rotkreuz and finished in Bern. The race was composed of nine stages including two time trials, a short one on the first day and a long one on the last day. The event covered 1,258km (782mi) and visited Liechtenstein and Austria on its fifth stage. There was only one mountaintop finish, on the aforementioned stage five.
The winner of the general classification was Slovenian Simon Špilak of Team Katusha, who won the race by a margin of only five seconds from Great Britain's Geraint Thomas (Team Sky). The ultimate selection was made on the last day's individual time trial. Tom Dumoulin of the Giant–Alpecin squad rounded up the podium. The latter won the two individual time trials, on the first and last stage.
The mountains classification was awarded to Austria's Stefan Denifl (IAM Cycling), who featured in many breakaways to amass his points. The sprints classification was won by Slovakian Peter Sagan (Tinkoff–Saxo) who also was the victor of two stages. Team Sky finished at the head of the team classification with a margin of 11 minutes and 49 seconds.
As the Tour de Suisse was a UCI ProTour event, all 18 ProTour teams were invited automatically. They were joined by two Professional Continental teams, Cervélo TestTeam and Vorarlberg–Corratec, to form the event's 20-team peloton.

The course for the brief individual time trial was deceptively difficult, with a categorized climb coming after 5km and a technical descent down twisting, turning roads to the finish following it.
Two-time former world time trial champion and reigning Swiss national champion Fabian Cancellara was the winner of the opening individual time trial, taking the course 19 seconds faster than Liquigas' Roman Kreuziger. Despite the large gap Cancellara had over the man in second, most of the other times were tightly bunched, with 88 riders within a minute of Cancellara.
