WHAT IS PUBLIC POLICY IN SIMPLE TERMS
WHAT IS PUBLIC POLICY IN SIMPLE TERMS
I asked my Mom to define public policy. Here's what she said.
As you may know, my PhD is going to be in public policy. Well, enough people have asked me what public policy is that I thought it would be worthwhile to provide a quick explanation.
Also, thanks so much to Zack, Bekah, Catie, and my Mom for being willing to get on camera and answer questions when you had no idea in advance what they would be!

Making public policy more fun | Vasiliki (Vass) Bednar | TEDxToronto
An aggressive debater and playful inquisitor, Vass works at the University of Toronto's School of Public Policy & Governance while enjoying an Action Canada fellowship. For fun (and so she can finally play), she's designing a Canadian board game that simulates policy-making in the federation that will highlight the joys of contemporary governance. When she's not playing basketball, reading Maclean's, or blogging, the McMaster Arts & Science graduate spends a lot of time thinking about why things are the way they are and how they can be better.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in...

Defining Public Policy | LSE
Associate Professor Daniel Berliner, Course Convenor on the Public Policy Analysis online certificate course from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), explains the basic facets of public policy.
When it comes to identifying and solving societal and economic issues, where does a government begin? The answer lies in public policy. Although this system of laws, regulatory measures, and funding priorities may differ from country to country, one key feature remains the same: Public policy offers an important way for governments to respond to the needs of their citizens. On this course, develop practical skills and techniques that can be applied in policy-related projects, and gain a deeper understanding of the factors that influence the success and failure of policy.

At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Speaker: Jennifer Fagan-Fry, NOAA Institutional Repository Manager
Abstract: ORCIDs, much like DOIs, are “an elegant weapon for a more civilized age,” and provide a concise and accurate way to link researchers with their research outputs. As they are more widely adopted and utilized throughout the publishing landscape, it is important for researchers to know the what, whys and hows of ORCIDs. In this webinar we will discuss the benefits of ORCIDs, how they are used throughout the publishing process, and how the NOAA Central Library can help you with managing your profile.

Abstract: Regular expressions are commonly used for finding and extracting matches from sequence data. Due to the inherent ambiguity of regular expressions, a disambiguation policy must be considered for the match extraction problem, in order to uniquely determine the desired match out of the possibly many matches. The most common disambiguation policies are the POSIX policy and the greedy (PCRE) policy. The POSIX policy chooses the longest match out of the leftmost ones. The greedy policy chooses a leftmost match and further disambiguates using a greedy interpretation of Kleene iteration to match as many times as possible. The choice of disambiguation policy can affect the output of match extraction, which can be an issue for reusing regular expressions across regex engines. In this paper, we introduce and study the notion of disambiguation robustness for regular expressions. A regular expression is robust if its extraction semantics is indifferent to whether the POSIX or greedy disambiguation policy is chosen. This gives rise to a decision problem for regular expressions, which we prove to be PSPACE-complete. We propose a static analysis algorithm for checking the (non-)robustness of regular expressions and two performance optimizations. We have implemented the proposed algorithms and we have shown experimentally that they are practical for analyzing large datasets of regular expressions derived from various application domains.
