The upper level has four tracks and two island platforms. The band is gold with black border. The station had a full mezzanine, although the central portion is now used as a police precinct. The lower level has three tracks and two island platforms. The tile border here is gold with black and the name tablets are black with gold border. The northbound platform is twice as wide as the station's other three similarly-sized platforms, so that the three trackways on the lower level line up directly with those above. Escalators lead up from this level to the mezzanine, bypassing the upper-level platforms. The full-time entrance is at 145th Street with a part-time north exit at 147th Street.
This station has three tracks and two side platforms. The northbound local track merges with the center track north of the station and the line continues north as two tracks. The middle track from here south to 103rd Street is unused for revenue service. The platforms here are offset with the northbound one being slightly more to the south.
Just south of the station lies the underground 137th Street Yard, which is visible from passing trains. The track layout allows northbound trains to bypass this station by switching to the center express track in the 137th Street Yard south of the station. This was used when the 1 train ran skip-stop service with the 9 train from 1989–2005. During rush hours, 9 trains served this station while 1 trains bypassed it. Northbound 1 trains used the center express track and all southbound trains used only the southbound local track.
145th Street was a station on the demolished IRT Ninth Avenue Line. It had 2 levels. The lower level was built first and had 2 tracks and 2 side platforms and served local trains. The upper level was built as part of the Dual Contracts and had 1 track and 2 side platforms over the local tracks that served express trains. The station closed on June 11, 1940. The next southbound local stop was 140th Street. The next southbound express stop was 125th Street. The next northbound local stop was 151st Street. The next northbound express stop was 155th Street.

Food Warriors: 145th Street
Neighborhood: Harlem (Sugar Hill)
At 145th Street the Food Warriors walked up and down Harlem's historic Sugar Hill and definitely felt the effects of gentrification. Half of the people we spoke to sang the praises of Harlem Public - a fusion hamburger/bar food spot that screamed New Harlem (Peanut butter burgers!). But the other half said hold up, stick with the Famous Fish Market - a fried fish hole in the wall (literally!) with no seating that's occupied the neighborhood for years. AKA: Old Harlem.
As much as a cream cheese burger felt worth trying, the lure of fried fish drew us to the Famous Fish Market where we ordered fried shrimp, fried scallops w/fries and big iced teas with lemon. We would have done fried clams but they were out.

Jumping the 145th Subway Gap with the Citi Bike Boyz
Inspired by Tyshawn Jones’ recent tricks across the tracks, Jerome hit us up yesterday afternoon saying he wanted to huck it on a Citi Bike. Nobody was hurt in the process, and nobody got arrested, so we’ll chalk it up as another W for the Citi Bike Boyz.
